Morkes® Chocolates Introduces the Sweet Ride
Morkes® Chocolates Introduces Event to Eat Chocolate Guilt Free, Increase Community Awareness and Contribute to a Good Cause
Palatine, IL, June 26, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Morkes® Chocolates has created a guilt-free way to indulge in the delicious taste of chocolate, promote the Village of Palatine and help cocoa farmers around the world. The event—The Sweet Ride: 2009 Palatine Chocolate Bicycle Tour will debut on August 9.
Chocolate lovers will bicycle through trails and paths in Palatine stopping for chocolate taste offerings at four local Palatine establishments that Morkes® Chocolates partnered with, in addition to their own taste offering. The route will open at 9:00 A.M. and tastings along the way will be offered during specific times ending at 1:00 P.M. The route is eleven miles with six optional add on miles. In case of rain, a route will be accessible by car.
After the event, from noon to six P.M., riders and non-riders are invited to spend the afternoon under a tent at Morkes® Chocolates. Beer from a local brewery, chocolate wine, food from Palatine restaurants and chocolate will all be available for purchase.
A portion of the profits will benefit the World Cocoa Foundation—a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the standard of living of cocoa farmers around the world by providing training on low-cost methods to produce quality cocoa in a sustainable, environmentally friendly manner.
Rhonda Morkes, third generation owner of Morkes® Chocolates and creator of the event explained that she has always wanted to develop a local event to promote the Village of Palatine, where the family business has been located since 1967. She envisioned an event that “appealed to individuals, groups of friends and families, was chocolate focused, involved exercise and fun, and also helped an organization that is important to the chocolate industry.” Future plans involve making The Sweet Ride in Palatine an annual event and introducing a Ride in Algonquin where a second retail store was opened in 2007.
