Today, the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation - the first lupus organization ever selected as a Charity Partner by the ING New York City Marathon - announced JackRabbit Sports will serve as the Official Professional Training Partner for "Team Life Without Lupus" in the upcoming ING New York City Marathon.
New York, NY, June 26, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Today, the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation announced JackRabbit Sports will serve as the Official Professional Training Partner for Team Life Without Lupus in the upcoming ING New York City Marathon.
“Team Life Without Lupus” will draw runners from New York City and across the country committed to raising awareness and research funds for the more than 1.5 million Americans with lupus who can’t run themselves because of the often crippling fatigue, joint and muscle pain, and life-threatening damage to organs and tissues caused by the disease. Money raised by Team Life Without Lupus will fund research for desperately needed new treatments and a cure.
JackRabbit Sports is a widely regarded specialty running and triathlon training resource, as well as an exclusive multi-sport retailer, with locations in both Brooklyn and Manhattan. JackRabbit has trained thousands of athletes for a wide array of multi-sport events for close to a decade.
“With its strong philanthropic focus, JackRabbit Sports is the ideal partner for Team Life Without Lupus,” said Margaret G. Dowd, executive director of the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation. “We believe in the quality of training provided by JackRabbit and know they will give our team members the foundation they need to accomplish such an athletically demanding activity as the ING NYC Marathon.”
JackRabbit Sports will provide Life Without Lupus team members the chance to participate in a Marathon Training Program that will include:
· a 16 week program under the direction of professional coaches, with runs twice a week; including intense and speed work and long training runs. Last half of the Marathon run
· weekly e-mails with planned weekly schedules and suggested in-between class runs/workouts
· gear nights with coach gear guidance and special team discounts
· online forum access with guidance regarding nutrition, gear and other related topics
· Race day preparation and coaching
· JackRabbit technical t-shirt
The Head Coach of the Life Without Lupus Marathon Team will be:
Jonathan Cane, a competitive runner, cyclist, and triathlete, earned a masters degree in exercise physiology. Not only is he the president of City Coach as well as a coach for Nike, he also has written treatises on the topic of running and is a contributing writer for MetroSports and NY Runner magazines.
The S.L.E. Lupus Foundation is the first lupus organization ever selected as a Charity Partner by the ING New York City Marathon. As a Participating Charity, the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation has 25 openings for runners to participate in “Team Life Without Lupus.” In addition to JackRabbit Sports’ training, the team will provide its runners with a pre-race pasta party, a post-race victory celebration, social events throughout the training season, and Asics running apparel.
The ING New York City Marathon takes place November 1, 2009. More than 6,000 runners representing more than 75 charities—both record numbers—aim to raise $21 million, which would be an all-time high for the race.

Lupus is a leading cause of heart attack, kidney disease and stroke among young women. No major new treatments for lupus have been approved in more than 40 years.
