Four Buildings by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Receive Green Good Design Awards from European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and Chicago Athenaeum

San Francisco, CA, June 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, one of the country’s leading architectural practices, received four architecture awards given by the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and Chicago Athenaeum through its new Green Good Design program. Begun this year, the Green GOOD DESIGN program recognizes architecture, environment/landscape architecture, and products/industrial design for excellence in sustainability and design. The international awards program received hundreds of entries from over 40 nations. Projects winning architecture awards are located in Europe, Asia, North and South America. Both civic and cultural buildings by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson received awards:

The Barn at Fallingwater, Mill Run, Pennsylvania: The architects adapted a historic barn structure for use as a conference and event center on the grounds of Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic residence, Fallingwater, in rural southwestern Pennsylvania, for the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.

Ballard Library and Neighborhood Service Center, Seattle, Washington: Drawing upon the Scandinavian and maritime roots of this Seattle neighborhood, the Ballard Library transcends the constraints of a modest budget with its ample natural light and exposed wood structure.

Seattle City Hall, Seattle, Washington: Working with Bassetti Architects, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson designed this LEED Gold building to evoke the spirit of the Northwest and reflect the city's rising international profile as a place embodying civility and livability.

Pocono Environmental Education Center, Visitor Activity Center, Delaware Water Gap, Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania: Serving as a multi-purpose teaching and gathering space for the environmental education center, this building for PEEC and the National Park Service features many sustainable design elements, including a façade made from recycled tires. Through the use of passive solar heating, natural ventilation and daylighting, this facility takes advantage of all the natural world has to offer; the warmth of the sun, prevailing breezes, natural light and views of the forest to the south.
