Peter Schkeeper of SCHKEEPER INC. Receives Prestigious Distinguished Engineering Service Award
The New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers (NJSPE) has honored Peter A. Schkeeper, P.E., principal at SCHKEEPER INC., with its 2009 Distinguished Engineering Service Award, in acknowledgment of his more than 40 years of service to the engineering profession. Schkeeper, a recognized expert in building inspection and forensic engineering, was selected to be this year’s award recipient due to his long and distinguished career in the engineering industry.
Red Bank, NJ, July 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers (NJSPE) has honored Peter A. Schkeeper, P.E., principal at SCHKEEPER INC., with its 2009 Distinguished Engineering Service Award, in acknowledgment of his more than 40 years of service to the engineering profession. Schkeeper, a recognized expert in building inspection and forensic engineering, was selected to be this year’s award recipient due to his long and distinguished career in the engineering industry. He received the award at the NJSPE’s Annual Awards & Installation Reception held June 11, 2009, at the Trenton Country Club in Trenton, N.J.
Schkeeper received the Distinguished Engineering Service Award for his meritorious service to the engineering profession. Schkeeper was honored for specific contributions such as career counseling with students, active responsibilities in NJSPE, and participation in several cross-discipline technical organizations including the National Academy of Building Inspection Engineers (a chartered affinity group of the National Society of Professional Engineers), for which he is vice president and serves on the board, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
“One of my favorite activities is helping young people learn about engineering, math, and science, and encouraging those with the aptitude to enter engineering,” said Schkeeper. “I lead the ZOOM into Engineering program in New Jersey, which both allows me to conduct workshops for young people throughout New Jersey, providing them with hands on experiences to help build their interest in engineering and science, as well as to teach other engineers how to do the same.”
“Peter’s involvement in the engineering community and his more than 40 years of service to the profession are just some of the reasons he was chosen to receive this year’s Distinguished Engineering Service Award,” said NJSPE president Kevin Becica. “He has been tireless in his commitment to both his colleagues as well as to our potential student membership base, which represents a tremendous investment in the future of both our Society as well as the engineering profession at large. The Distinguished Engineering Service Award, the most prestigious of the NJSPE’s Awards for Engineering Excellence, recognizes sustained contributions to the public welfare, to the advancement of the profession of engineering, and to the benefit of mankind.
