Continental Disc Corporation Launches a New Switchgear Overpressure Bursting Disc

Continental Disc Corporation has introduced a new rupture disc assembly for use within switchgear housings.

Liberty, MO, July 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Continental Disc Corporation has introduced a new rupture disc assembly for use within switchgear housings. This rupture disc provides safety protection for personnel and equipment from injury or damage and limits down time in the event of arcing faults within the switchgear housing. These arcing faults may generate unsafe internal sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas pressure.

Manufacturers of switchgears use rupture discs on cabinets where conductors and contacts are insulated by pressurized SF6. Within switchgear housings, very large amounts of energy are released in the form of heat. This energy may give rise to pressure increases which may burst the enclosure unless the pressure from the heated gas is relieved.

In the event of an internal arc fault, the Continental Disc Corporation Switchgear Overpressure Bursting Disc relieves the internal pressure before it exceeds the design limit of the compartment. Any discharges resulting from internal arc faults are then directed away from locations where personnel may be present. This rupture disc features a 90% operating ratio and solid metal design in a variety of materials for optimum corrosion resistance.

Established in 1965, Continental Disc Corporation is a leading manufacturer of rupture disc devices for a variety of process industries, including chemical, petrochemical, petroleum refining, pharmaceutical, beverage, food and dairy, aerospace, gases, electronics, and other markets worldwide.
