Mallory Alexander International Logistics Receives U.S. “E” Award for Exporting Excellence by Presidential Representative at Memphis Ceremony
Memphis, TN, August 23, 2006 --(PR.com)-- The President's Award for Excellence in Exporting was presented to Mallory Alexander International Logistics at a ceremony attended by civic and state leaders, top exporters and Mallory Alexander staff from around the country. The August 9 presentation was made by Presidential appointee Colleen Litkenhaus, deputy assistant secretary for domestic operations, U.S & Foreign Commercial Service, to Neely Mallory III, president of Mallory Alexander.
This prestigious award is made only to companies that have demonstrated excellence in exporting and completed a rigorous review process by the Department of Commerce. This review was based on five years of continuous export growth. Mallory Alexander was awarded the “E” Award--giving the company the right to fly the blue and white “E” flag at all of their locations. The company's exports increased 97 percent during the period 2001-2005.
“If you have recently received a cotton shirt that was made in China, there is a 50-50 chance that it was made of U.S. cotton forwarded by Mallory Alexander on behalf of our many cotton export customers,” noted Mallory as he accepted the award. The United States has just produced the two largest cotton export crops in its history, a fact that is sometimes lost in the attention given to U.S. imports. In 2005, the U.S. had the largest amount of exports in its history, which have grown at a pace of three percent over the past five years. "Today--with over 500 employees and 2,700 U.S. customers--we continue to focus on U.S. exports. There is no better example of this than our large forwarding and warehousing operation on the Texas-Mexican border.”
Noting that Mallory Alexander was founded more than 80 years ago on the Memphis bluff of the Mississippi River, Mallory said, “I wanted to share this honor here in our hometown of Memphis with our customers, carriers and the worldwide Mallory Alexander team. Without you, there would not be an award presented here today.”
The President's “E” Award was created by Executive Order of the President on December 5, 1961 to recognize persons, firms or organizations which contribute significantly to increased U.S. exports. The Award has its roots in World War II, when more than 4,000 “E Pennants” were presented to war plants for their contribution to the war effort. A symbol of their patriotism was the flag emblazoned with the large E.
