Nadjah Pennington - Quiet Confidence & Striking Beauty Takes the Crown in Talented Teen Competition
Nadjah Pennington of New Castle, DE wins Hal Jackson's Talented Teens Delaware Competition.
Wilmington, DE, July 03, 2009 --(PR.com)-- 39th Annual Hal Jackson Talented Teens International Scholarship Competition
On May 30th at Howard High School, Nadjah Pennington, a 17 old junior at the Delaware Military Academy, sang her way into the hearts and minds of five distinguished judges to win the title of Miss Talented Teen Delaware. Three girls, three powerful talents but only one could represent Delaware at the international finals in New York City. There’s big personality, drive and determination but it’s “Quiet Confidence” that shares with the other girls how to walk, how to pose and how to take command of the stage. The fact that this is a competition and they are her competitors really doesn’t faze her. Nadjah Pennington, quiet and unassuming, walked away with the 2009 title of Miss Talented Teen Delaware for the Hal Jackson Talented Teen Scholarship Program. The Talented teen program, in its 39th Year, over the years, has been graced with the presence of Vanessa L. Williams, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Jada Pinkett Smith. Now they can add the beautiful Nadjah Pennington to their list. Nadjah currently resides in New Castle, Delaware. Her parents are Wayne Pennington and Khimula Pennington. She began singing in her church choir when she was a little girl.
As the winner, Nadjah will represent Delaware at the international finals in New York City from July 11 thru July 19th. Conducted by the Inspiration for Excellence organization, the Talented Teens Delaware competition is a franchise of Hal Jackson’s Talented Teens International out of New York, founded by broadcast legend Harold “Hal” Jackson. The Competition focuses on talent and accomplishments and the Hal Jackson organization has given away many thousands of dollars in scholarship money over the years.
All three contestants were talent power houses. Also competing were Jasmine Johnson, a student at Maurice J. Moyer Academy where she is an honor student and a member of the National Honor Society and Nicole Antoinette Thomas, age 16, a singer, dancer, actress, who attends Ursuline Academy in Wilmington,
The distinguished panel of judges were Justin Melodic, a 2008 graduate of Cab Calloway School of the Performing Arts; NicKayla Tucker, a 12 year old professional singer, dancer and actress (played Young Nala in The Lion King on Broadway); Arnell Davis, Director at Bristol-Myers Squibb; Loren Boyd, Miss 2007 Talented Teen DE; and TuJuana Pierce, a professional singer and member of Canaan Baptist Church.
Also performing as one of the featured guest was Make a Joyful Noise Performing Company, headed by Tatiana Lofton, a student at Cab Calloway. Mayor James Baker was a special guest and gave his congratulations to all of the young participants.
