Ebonics Releases Debut EP Self-Titled ‘Distinguished’

Pawtucket, RI, July 05, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The budding talent from Rhode Island is set to release his exciting debut “EP”, a move which will help the young artist begin making his transition to mainstream music.

Shelton Long alias “Ebonics,” is preparing to release his debut EP later this summer, marking a huge turning point in the development of the career career of the multi-talented singer-songwriter-dancer. Shelton, who resides in Pawtucket, Rhode Island just finished adding the final components to the EP, and is preparing for an imminent release to hopefully build upon his already growing fan base and get his music heard by more people.

The EP, ‘Distinguished’, contains five original songs from Ebonics, each provides a combination of his high-energy vocal ability and diverse yet truthful “clean” lyrics. The production work speaks for itself, combining the elements of old school/new-school hip-hop, rap, and R&B.

The theme of the EP was to showcase realism and truth. Ebonics’ lyrics focus on the truths of life, including dealing with relationship problems and people who aren’t all they seem to be: “Everything I write comes from the heart,” he explains. His EP is really only an introduction for him into the mainstream music industry. He’s going to continue explore new subjects and different styles he can apply to music with his lyrical ability.

“My biggest influences are artists like Common, Nas, Talib Kwali, Mos Def, and India Arie,” says Ebonics. “I look up to each one as a lyricist and an inspiration.” Since Ebonics also dances, he looks up to Diddy and T-Pain, who both know how to make people feel good through wordplay.

Ebonics started writing lyrics to relieve stress, and his hobby soon turned into a full-time occupation: “My family knew I was put on this earth to entertain others, no matter what.” Since then, Ebonics has honed his skills with performances in various talent shows, charity events, and in popular venues in the New England region.

Ebonics’ song writing process is freely structured: Free styling at home often has him jotting down lyrics for later use and he always writes the chorus of a song first. “At times, I automatically know what I’m going to write as soon as I hear the beat. Something inside me paints the picture before I even know what I’m going to talk about. As soon as I come up with the title of a song, I think about how each verse is going to have a different impact on the song as a whole.” You’re able to see the thought process he’s utilized in creating his EP ‘Distinguished.’

The EP will be launching shortly, and fans are encouraged to visit Ebonics' Website, which provides all the information about the young entertainer.
