Riverside Friends "Give Wright" to Help Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Non-profit consultant Cynthia Wright named Leukemia-Lymphoma Society Woman of the Year for fundraising efforts in Riverside, California.
Riverside, CA, July 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Local fundraising professional Cynthia Wright has never been one to miss an opportunity to raise money for a good cause in her 20-plus years helping non-profits in Riverside, Ca. On June 30, Wright received word that funds donated in connection with an open house event held at her new consulting business, combined with a direct mail appeal, earned her the distinction of being named Woman of the Year for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The Man/Woman of the Year campaign is designed to create competition between volunteer fundraisers. Matt Friedlander, YWCA Board, was named Man of the Year. Other candidates were Rebeccah Goldware, Chair of the YWCA Board; Chris Maggio, Executive Vice President for Inland Valley Bank ; and Mary Parks, television news reporter for KNBC’s Inland Empire region.
Wright’s friends and colleagues helped her raise funds to support the LLS in Riverside. The fundraising drive was sponsored by the LLS for a 10-week period between April and June.
Wright said she was delighted that her open house event, which she hosted as a small, casual affair designed to introduce her friends and colleagues to her new entrepreneurial venture, yielded such a worthwhile result.
"Typically, you would host a major fundraising event and invite supporters of your cause in an effort to bolster your organization's own funding needs," Wright explained. "While I'm excited to introduce my colleagues to my new consulting enterprise, and certainly I'd love it if everyone opened their checkbooks to support my new venture, in this business it is all about helping others, and we did that," she laughed.
Wright's sense of humor, in addition to her fundraising prowess is also well known in the local community. "I've formed my own business as a for-profit organization," she stressed, "and though we literally opened the doors in May, I'm happy to report that we have several client projects already on the books. We're starting small, but have big dreams."
Wright formed The Wright Image, as the new venture is called, in order to assist non-profits with their fundraising and promotion needs. The open house event where she encouraged her colleagues to support the LLS cause is a prime example of her organizational skills, and her ability to move others to action.
"I can't say I am really surprised because Riversiders are known for their generosity," she said. "But, I can say I am delighted that they turned up for this particular call, which means a lot to me personally, and is a help to the LLS in some really tough times."
Wright said her firm is designed to serve as a resource for local non-profit organizations that do not have adequate staffing to meet their goals. "In these times, it is even more important for us to rally with the resources we have to help others in greater need," Wright said.
"The reality is that none of us by ourselves can accomplish the tasks set before us. But by combining our resources, we are able to fulfill those needs we are called to fill."
The Wright Image's services include: program development, strategic planning, writing (including grantwriting), fund development and training. Cynthia Wright, founder/principal, is former Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement for California Baptist University.
