Tutoring Increases Success in Science Classes

San Luis Obispo, CA, July 07, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Discovery Institute for the Advancement of Science and Technology Education is a non-profit educational foundation dedicated to the improvement of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education at all levels, particularly in informal settings. The Discovery Institute is now offering high quality tutoring in science to middle school, high school, and college level students. Whether you are an "A" student or a "D" student, they will help you to comprehend those “difficult” scientific concepts, improve your grade, and to generally become a more successful student.

Science has traditionally been considered a hard subject for students to master. It is often presented as a voluminous series of facts to be memorized for a test. It is no wonder students become overwhelmed by the vast amount of material and terms that make it seem like your dealing with a foreign language. Discovery Institute tutors strive to make science interesting and easy to understand by organizing and connecting the many facts into cognitive connections, so you "get the big picture.” By explaining content in multiple ways using everyday examples, illustrations, analogies, and experiences, while adapting to your learning styles and accommodating for your particular learning difficulties you will learn at a level not typically possible in a traditional classroom.

Tutoring you one-on-one, or in small groups, tailors the learning experience to your individual needs and learning styles. Discovery Institute Tutors are trained to analyze and remediate your conceptual gaps, misconceptions, and problem areas. They give you strategies for reading science textbooks, taking notes in class, taking science exams, problem solving, managing study time, and organizing scientific understanding in ways that will bring the content alive and meaningful for you. They also administer quizzes and practice tests to you, and immediately following, will go over your results focusing on missed questions. This kind of personalized instruction and feedback synthesizes and builds science concepts quickly and efficiently.

Discovery Institute tutors are extremely patient and create a comfortable atmosphere without distractions. Tutors will regularly work with your teachers and parents to insure that we resonate with what you are doing in class and at home. They are familiar with National and California Science standards and will often address these standards during our tutoring sessions.

Choosing a Tutor
When you choose a tutor, it is best to base your decision on their experience, knowledge, and track record as a successful tutor. All Discovery Institute tutors are current or retired science teachers with Master’s and Doctorate degrees. Each has a minimum of 20 years of teaching excellence in middle school, high school, and college. Each tutor also has professional experience in scientific research and development, both in the field and laboratory. This level of professional experience in science and science education enables them to provide the highest quality tutoring-learning experience.
