OH2 International Puts Sleepy Cheshire Village on the World Map

New translation services for business websites reaches new markets and promises increased awareness.

Crewe, United Kingdom, July 10, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Sleepy Beeston probably doesn’t know it yet but this quaint Cheshire village formerly best known for its castle and regular farmers’ markets has quietly made its debut onto the world stage thanks to local resident and businessman John Bendel.

For since moving to Cheshire last year, the founder and Managing Director of fast-growing translation company OH2 International has effectively made Beeston the HQ of a business with offices in Keele, Madrid, Barcelona and soon to expand to Poland.

“We’ve not got Beeston on the letterhead yet,” explained John. “But I do much of my work from my home office because I love Cheshire and communications in this part of the world are so good that I can be in Liverpool, Manchester or the West Midlands in not much more than an hour.

“Although we have not been in Beeston that long, my wife Tiggy and I and our two children Amy, 14 and 12 –years-old Joshua regard it as our home partly because we’ve been welcomed with open arms by the community.”

In fact it was a deep ‘homesickness’ for Blighty that convinced John and his wife to relocate to the land of their birth after 20 years in Spain. Although they had established a beautiful home in Barcelona and their children regarded Spanish as their first language, John was determined to re-establish their roots.

The move was made even more traumatic by the fact that John’s translation company OH2 International had become a huge success in Spain where it had attracted some major blue-chip clients.

“When we started the business we were in a niche market, providing a translation service for business that brought together two disciplines – marketing and translation,” said John a Cambridge English graduate who had grown up in Hertfordshire. “It was about making sure sales materials and advertising were truly accessible to a company’s international audience.

“After leaving university I ended up doing some teaching work in Costa Rica which gave me a thorough grounding in Spanish, a language that I grew to love. Eventually I moved to Spain and started a small translation company called Target Communications.

“Fortunately my area of expertise and my location in Barcelona gave my business a huge boost thanks to the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. My translation services were in huge demand.

“Those Olympics were regarded as one of the most successful of all time and much of that success was due to the city’s use of translation. They made the event accessible to huge numbers of people around the world and enjoyed a massive boost in tourism as a result.

After the Olympic experience John then developed a speciality service in web-site translation for Spanish companies who wanted to use their ‘on-line window on the world’ to sell their products and services.

“It made sense because by this time many companies had already invested in building a web-site. By their very nature, websites are viewed by people from around the world, therefore by translating the text into different languages you ensure more people know and understand what you do and what you offer.

“A number of Spanish companies saw the logic in this and we helped them build a web presence in English that enabled them to gain new visibility and new business in English speaking countries.”

However, despite the continuing success of their business John and Tiggy still yearned to come home to the UK.

“Eventually we decided to bite the bullet and plan a return to the UK. Obviously we needed a business base in Britain and I began working on developing a business model based on the service we still offer to Spanish companies.”

After searching out locations the family chose the picturesque village of Beeston as their home which meant John could enjoy an easy commute to his office at Keele University as well as having convenient access to the major commercial centres in the North West and the Midlands.

Meanwhile new technology helps him keeps in touch with his offices in Madrid and Barcelona backed up by regular visits to Spain.

However, John’s priority now is bringing the benefits of business translation to a new and growing client base. He is already working with a number of Cheshire companies, translating their websites to take their products to new audiences around the globe.

“Ironically, as in Spain, I find myself establishing a new business in the run up to a major Olympics, London 2012. Obviously I am talking to a great many businesses who want to take advantage of the opportunities offered by such a world wide event and I want to talk to many more.

“After all, if the London Olympics is as positive for my business as Barcelona was to my Spanish enterprise, I’ll be as happy as a gold medal winner.”
