Choral Arts Link will host the MET Summer Camp for rising fourth through 12th grade singers and the Mini MET Camp for rising second and third graders, July 20-24, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, at the W. O. Smith Community Music School, 1125 8th Ave South, Nashville, TN 37203.
Nashville, TN, July 10, 2009 --(PR.com)-- With a few more weeks of summer left, a local organization is preparing to give children the priceless gift of music.
Participants will learn choral expressions, sight reading, vocal mentoring, orff instrumentation and tips from special musical guests in attendance.
While most public schools systems are cutting various music and arts programs, Choral Arts Link is working year round to offer formalized choral training and performance opportunities to children. Margaret Campbelle-Holman, executive director of the Choral Arts Link and youth chorus director for the Nashville Symphony Celebration, envisions the camp as a creative opportunity for children.
“The music training at our camp bridges the gap to any divide and provides a variety of opportunities for students, teachers, parents and the greater community. The children learn scholarship, leadership and teamwork through choral performance. We are excited about this year’s camp and look forward to meeting new children and parents,” said Campbelle-Holman.
The MET Summer Camp serves as retreat for children who participate in the MET Singers Honor Choir year round and as an introductory camp for children who enter the program for the first time.
The choir is made up of 75 talented children from throughout middle Tennessee. During the 2009 Presidential Inauguration, the group participated in The Heritage Music Festival at George Mason University in Washington, D.C.
Children participating in the MET Summer Camp will have the opportunity to extend experiences into the fall and sing with the Celebration Youth Chorus for The Nashville Symphony's annual Let Freedom Sing concert held each January and record a group CD project featuring children’s lullabies at The Renaissance Center in Dickson, TN.
MET Summer Camp applications are now being accepted. The cost is $80 for MET Camp and $35 for MINI MET Camp. For more information, visit www.choralartslink.org or call 615. 876.9024.
