International Business Brokers Association Announces New President

Chicago, IL, July 10, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The International Business Brokers Association (IBBA) recently announced that Mark O. Thorsby, CAE, will assume the position of President, effective June 13, 2009. Thorsby will succeed Patricia Appelhans, JD, who has served as IBBA President since June 2007.

Thorsby brings more than 34 years of experience in association management and recently completed service as the Executive Director of the International Carwash Association, an industry trade association representing the professional car wash industry. A subject matter expert in the field of governance, leadership development and strategic planning, Thorsby has managed and consulted with a wide variety of trade associations, professional and medical societies, foundations and other not-for-profit organizations during his career.

“Mark has already played an instrumental role in developing strategies to help sustain and grow the IBBA during these challenging economic times,” said IBBA Chairman Andy Cagnetta. “His leadership will continue to be critical as he assumes full responsibilities as President.”

“I’m extremely honored to step into this role with the IBBA,” said Thorsby. “These are challenging times for the business brokerage industry, and I look forward to working with the IBBA Board, membership and staff to fulfill the initiatives of our strategic plan. Our goals are increasing membership in IBBA and M&A Source; continuing to offer relevant educational content; enhancing technology to deliver increased value; and increasing brand awareness of the business brokerage profession.”

During her tenure as IBBA President, Appelhans worked closely with the leadership to help the association grow domestically and internationally with a new chapter in Canada and additional chapters developing in Ireland and the United Kingdom. She placed a great emphasis on education and led the association to develop many new courses and online offerings.”

“On behalf of the IBBA Board of Directors, I thank Pat for her service and dedication to the IBBA and its membership,” concluded Cagnetta.

The IBBA’s mission is to promote members’ professional development and interests, and to maximize public awareness of the business brokerage profession. In his new role, Thorsby will work closely with the IBBA leadership on strategies that adhere to this mission. His expertise in strategic planning will serve to guide the IBBA through these uncertain times, and will ultimately poise the association and its members for the inevitable return to growth.
