Portsmouth, NH, July 14, 2009 --(PR.com)-- E.J. Fitch's newest book has been published by Lulu.com. "Poor Mrs. Godwin and other Unfortunates" tells the stories of ordinary people in the 19th Century who suffered horrid fates from murder, accidents, hangings, rabies and other diseases. These are real people and their fates are described in often graphic detail as written in the newspapers of the day. A fascinating insight into life in the 1800's and the hardships people had to overcome to survive.

Ms. Fitch has published seven earlier books centered on genealogical research. Those publications were also based upon data from 19th Century newspapers concentrating on vital statistics such as deaths, marriages and births. During research for those books she discovered a wealth of extremely interesting articles concerning graphic and gruesome murders, accidental deaths, strange events and uncommon happenstances.

Ms. Fitch decided that the stories were so interesting that she would write a book based solely on such articles. Thus the genesis for "Poor Mrs. Godwin and other Unfortunates". Gleaning the most unusual stories from hundreds of newspapers in her personal collection of over 5,000, she painstakingly created the volume released today.

Each story retains the original style of writing of the on-scene reporter. Those vigilant scribes were there at the time and wrote the stories as they happened. The book brings history back to life and provides deep insights into everyday life during the 1800's. These were real people and the tragedies that befell them changed their lives forever.

"Poor Mrs. Godwin and other Unfortunates" is currently available at lulu.com and will soon appear on amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com and other mainstream internet sites and brick and mortar stores. This volume is an appealing read for both the history buff and the true crime afficianado.
