Laser Liposuction Innovations Provide Plastic Surgery Alternatives in Minnesota
The husband and wife physician owners of Edina’s Skin Rejuvenation Clinic, P.A. discuss the debate between traditional liposuction versus laser-assisted liposuction and how tumescent laser lipolysis techniques are stacking up against the competition in the Twin Cities.
Edina, MN, July 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Recent laser innovations developed for body contouring procedures are causing notable shifts in the plastic surgery industry not only in Minnesota, but the nation.
According to a recent statistics report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), in 2008, doctors performed over 12 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures — encompassing both surgical and minimally-invasive procedures. But while surgical numbers dropped nine percent last year, minimally-invasive numbers actually rose five percent.
Mark Hagberg, MD and Elizabeth Hagberg, MD, owners of one of the fastest growing cosmetic centers located in Edina, Minnesota, Skin Rejuvenation Clinic, say that modern laser-assisted liposuction techniques may be a factor in the decline of overall surgical procedures.
Dr. Mark Hagberg said he sees more and more people turning away from traditional methods of fat removal the longer laser-assisted liposuction is available, and the more familiar people become with the advantages of laser lipolysis technology.
“When compared to patients who undergo traditional liposuction, laser liposuction patients typically experience faster recovery times, less discomfort and a more gentle procedure,” he says. “There is less bruising and none of the complications associated with general anesthesia when tumescent anesthesia is used.” He explained that tumescent anesthesia is a type of local anesthesia where the patient is not ‘put to sleep’, but is kept relaxed and comfortable. He continued, “Another major advantage is that ProLipo provides additional skin tightening that is not possible with traditional liposuction.”
Dr. Elizabeth Hagberg added, “We always encourage patients considering body contouring procedures to research all options, including traditional fat removal methods. We are confident that the advantages of laser-assisted liposuction procedures [ProLipo, SmartLipo and CoolLipo] speak for themselves.”
Developed in 2007 and now FDA-approved, the laser liposuction technique uses a cannula that is inserted under the skin to remove isolated pockets of fat. But by actually melting fat cells before they are removed, laser-assisted liposuction causes much less trauma to tissue, resulting in decreased bleeding, swelling and bruising than would be found in traditional liposuction cases. According to Dr. Mark Hagberg, who performs ProLipo laser lipo treatments at Skin Rejuvenation Clinic, this ultimately leads to a faster recovery. “At our clinic the treatment is so comfortable, patients do not need to be put to sleep; they are kept awake and relaxed.”
He adds that in addition to melting the fat, ProLipo procedures cause the body to stimulate production of collagen, resulting in smoother and tighter skin in the targeted area, with continued tightening for up to six months.
Drs. Beth and Mark Hagberg have trained with many of the top plastic surgeons and cosmetic dermatologists in the country. They also train physicians, physician assistants, and nurses on various anti-aging laser and injectable procedures.
