A Journaling Book that Will Bring Mothers and Daughters Closer Together

When Teresa Lauer’s mother died, her first thought upon hearing the news was of the many things she and her mom had never talked about and all the questions she had still to ask her. In Bonding: A Journal to Bring You Closer to Your Mom, Lauer is hoping to give others an opportunity to bond with their moms, so that they will not be left aching “for what was not said and what was not shared.”

Denver, CO, August 28, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Bonding: A Journal to Bring You Closer to Your Mom contains more than 101 carefully constructed questions that readers can use as a guide—questions that can serve as a catalyst for sharing. The questions are wide-ranging and deep, and, Lauer says, sure to develop a more profound connection and intimacy between mothers and daughters. They are questions that focus on a mom’s experiences as a daughter herself, as a lover and a wife, and as a mom. They ask about her dreams, life goals, and accomplishments; friendships, marriage, and sex; her own personality strengths and weaknesses; cultural traditions and philosophy of life. They also ask about the family’s medical history as well as how she would like to be treated as she reaches the end of her life.

Lauer urges readers not to procrastinate but to begin asking questions on a regular basis while there is still time. “It’s not advisable, of course, to attempt to get all your questions answered all at once. It’s crucial to be respectful of one’s personal boundaries and mental capabilities and not to frustrate, for example, a parent who may be older and unable to remember certain details. Become skilled at listening; try not to insert your own bias and stifle the free flow of thoughts and memories. Begin to listen as a friend and not as a daughter.”

Teresa M. Lauer, M.A., is a therapist specializing in intimacy in relationships. She obtained her master’s degree in counseling psychology at the University of San Francisco. Teresa has written a number of books and articles on relationship issues and has produced a video series. She says of her newest book, “The very things that draw us close have the potential to pull us apart, unless we develop understanding. Bonding: A Journal to Bring You Closer to Your Mom helps a person discover how to speak from the heart to bring a new level of love, respect, and appreciation to a complex relationship.”
