Smith Cunningham Announces Formation of New Firm

Kate Smith and Christopher Cunningham announce the formation of the law firm of Smith Cunningham L.P.

Colleyville, TX, July 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Noted Attorneys, Kate Smith and Christopher Cunningham are pleased to announce the formation of a new law firm; Smith Cunningham L.P. “We’re very excited about this new venture,” says Cunningham. “When faced with challenging transitions that dissolve your marriage through divorce, force you into litigation, or require estate planning for end of life decisions, it is an emotional time at best. At Smith Cunningham, L.P., our attorneys offer a blend of expertise and personalized attention to help clients overcome the hurdles involved in family law issues, estate planning, and other matters requiring civil litigation.”

Both Smith and Cunningham are collaboratively trained attorneys. “For many families, alternatives to litigation such as mediation or collaborative law offer a humane solution that avoids the adversarial atmosphere of a courtroom trial,” states Smith. “Through collaborative family law, we can take advantage of the insight of counseling specialists and financial experts in a cooperative effort to arrive at settlements that benefit the whole family. On occasion, relationships are strengthened and communication is restored, resolving not only the issues at hand, but also enabling families to better deal with future domestic concerns. However, when all cumulative resources have been exhausted and an amicable outcome is not possible, our attorneys put their finely tuned trial skills to work to protect our client’s rights in court.”

Smith is an accomplished attorney and has been recognized as a Credentialed Distinguished Mediator by the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association. In addition to her law degree, Smith has earned her LLM in dispute resolution at Pepperdine University. Smith is an adjunct professor at Texas Christian University where she teaches “Social Work and the Law”. She has also served on an externship for the Southwest Pilots Association in negotiating their union contract with Southwest Airlines, and serves on the Zoning Board of Adjustment for the City of Southlake.

Cunningham focuses his practice on divorce, child support, modifications, adoptions, probate, wills, business formation and business organization. He is also a certified family mediator. Cunningham has handled a variety of family law cases, attorney ad litem appointments for Texas Department of Family and Protective Services cases, and school law and special needs issues. His practice extends to complex community property issues, commercial landlord/tenant disputes, personal injury and civil litigation claims.
