The Haggle Spot.com Launches Local, Trusted Source for Online Auctions and Classifieds
Nashville, TN, July 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Middle Tennessee has a new solution to buy and sell merchandise online, including in an auction format. The site, www.TheHaggleSpot.com, puts a new twist on an old business – combining the only local site to for online auctions with classified ads from the area’s leading newspaper.
The site was created by The Tennessean, where classifieds have been online for more than a decade – with leading local sites for cars and jobs, affiliated with national partners Cars.com and CareerBuilder.com. But merchandise categories have seen strong competition from sites like Craigslist and Ebay. TheHaggleSpot.com helps launch a new service to meet that competitive challenge.
“We think we have a competitive advantage in the local market,” said Dave Gould, vice president of advertising. “For auctions, we have lower fees and a simpler transaction. The big, national sites have used their popularity to price the individual seller out. Working with local buyers and sellers also makes shipping and delivery more convenient.”
Visitors to the site on Thursday and Friday, July 16 & 17, will also have the opportunity to bid on a chance to buy Titans single-game tickets before they go on sale Saturday morning. The winning bidder will get two tickets courtesy of The Haggle Spot, and a chance to buy up to 8 more tickets to the games of their choosing.
The site is updated and maintained by a staff in Nashville, Gould said. Unlike many free sites, TheHaggleSpot.com is able to review the accuracy and appropriateness of the ads. If problems do occur, local people are there to provide assistance.
“Craigslist has argued they can’t be expected to review the volume of ads they receive,” Gould said. “But we think our customers expect some accountability, and we’ll provide it.”
TheHaggleSpot.com is the latest service of the Tennessean Media Group – a multi-media company offering information and advertising solutions through a variety of channels and formats, including The Tennessean and Tennessean.com.
The Tennessean Media Group is a multimedia company that publishes The Tennessean and Tennessean.com – the most complete sources of local news and information in Middle Tennessee.
