Tampa Photographer a Winner in National Photography Magazine Competition

Tampa, FL, July 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Photo District News (PDN) Magazine announced that local photographer Jamie Jackson is a winner in their magazine’s 2009 Faces Competition. Jackson and the other category winners were selected from over 5,000 entries received. PDN’s 2009 Faces competition highlights photographers who have made outstanding contributions to portrait photography. “I am excited to have been selected from the thousands of outstanding images submitted for the competition,” said Jackson, “And not just for me, but for the entire Tampa Bay area photography community. This helps put all of us on the map.”

Jackson’s winning images appear in July’s edition of the magazine and show children he encountered while in India. His first image shows a girl doing her chores at a local water faucet. She was filling metal canisters with water for her family to use. The second image is of a boy riding a train. After exiting the train from a short trip, Jackson looked up and saw a boy smiling at him and got the shot.

Jackson traveled to Rajasthan India in 2007 and toured many different villages and towns photographing local residents in their native environment. “I never plan out my next shot. I allow the moment to be as real as possible,” Jackson says, “I travel to places that interest me and talk to the people I find there. I try to connect with each person that I photograph and I feel that connection shows in the pictures.”
