Team Zoum Leader Axel Sly 3rd at North American Optimist Championships

Boca Raton, FL, July 19, 2009 --(PR.com)-- ZoumUSA Team leader Axel Sly of Weston, Florida and Coral Reef Yacht Club (“CRYC”) again demonstrated a cool head to overcome a mistake in the first race. Implementing tactical and strategic game plans for which he’s become known, Axel managed to put in consistent top 10 finishes in all 10 remaining races to win the event.

In what could only be described as unnerving sea states with huge swells the US took two of the top podium positions against 200 sailors from 23 countries.

Axel comes back from a winning position in the 2009 Caribbean International Regatta ahead of South American Champion Arthur Fortune of Guadeloupe and Lauderdale Yacht Club’s Christopher Williford just two weeks earlier. Axel now heads to Cabrillo Beach CA for the USODA National Optimist Championships and then to Niteroi Brazil for the IODA World Sailing Championship where he will be just 1 of 5 Americans to represent the USA.

The North American Optimist Championships were hosted by the Dominican optimist association and organizing committee of the OPTINAM 2009 in Dominican Republic with the support of the Dominican sailing federation.
