Winkworth Agents Report Record Month for House Sales, Despite Downturn
The green shoots of recovery in the housing market that started to appear this spring have blossomed into record house sales in some regions, according to Winkworth Estate Agents.
London, United Kingdom, July 26, 2009 --(PR.com)-- 2009 commenced with a flurry of activity in the housing market with agents reporting a surge in activity from buyers, who had been sitting on the fence throughout 2008. This renewed interest was quickly followed by a shortage of stock. Vendors were reluctant to put their property on the market when it looked like prices might pick up again. Low interest rates also helped stem the supply of property to the market.
With demand rising, the property market has come around full circle. As a result some Winkworth agents have been experiencing record sales levels.
Tim Winney, Franchisee of Winkworth Highcliffe, has had the best month in terms of house sales, since the boom in July/August 2007. Even then, sales figures were only marginally higher than last month. He says, "We had another record month for house sales in June, and July looks set to be a successful month as well. At the end of June this year we finished with over £30,000 net sales commission, we cannot get the sold boards up quickly enough!"
Housing Recovery Sees Some Agents in Stronger Position than Before Downturn
The downturn has actually benefited some Winkworth offices, increasing their market share and helping their business to grow. Winney continues, "In the downturn, lack of experience and over-reliance on the internet has held other agents back in terms of gaining instructions and selling property. I believe a return to traditional face-face contact is needed in this market to make it work for you."
As long as agents can source now much sought-after stock, in the emerging housing recovery there are good sales to be made. In Winchester Bill Jarvis, Franchisee, has reported the third consecutive record month for house sales, since he opened his business back in 2004. He says:
"We are now into what looks likely to be our third record month in succession, (since opening the office in January 2004), in terms of sales agreed. After a great April, May and June, July is shaping up to be another very successful month for Winkworth Winchester. There is a shortage of supply in Winchester and high demand. Our office is managing to meet this demand as properties are coming onto the market on the back of selling others. The properties that are in highest demand are terraced and semi-detached Victorian three-four bedroom houses, as well as detached family houses. This is a great market to be in if property is priced correctly and buyers are well matched to those properties."
