NCSF & NCSSE Partner for a New Era in Cheer Safety

The National Cheer Safety Foundation (NCSF) panel of experts is teaming up with the National Council for Spirit Safety and Education (NCSSE).

Irvine, CA, July 29, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The National Cheer Safety Foundation (NCSF) panel of experts teams up with the National Council for Spirit Safety and Education (NCSSE) to establish college-level safety courses for cheer coaches around the world. The new alliance brings together two powerhouses in cheer safety setting the stage to revolutionize cheerleading, signaling a dawning of a new era coined “safety first.”

“The NCSF is proud to announce our collaboration and mutual endorsement. The NCSSE’s coach’s education course is the only program in cheer to receive such an endorsement by the parents of injured cheerleaders and our distinguished panel of experts,” proclaims Kimberly Archie, founder and executive director of the National Cheer Safety Foundation.

“NCSSE is active in creating strong safety awareness for cheerleading coaches worldwide. Involvement in this project is a continuation of our efforts to create a safer environment for cheerleading. Having the science to support the sport will enhance a cheer coach’s ability to provide the best training for his or her athletes,” shares Debbie Bracewell, executive director of the NCSSE.

Solidifying the alliance, the NCSSE, supported by member companies AmeriCheer, United Performing Association, Inc., Cheer Ltd. Inc., National Cheerleading Federation, National Spirit Alliance and British Cheerleading Association, has adopted the NCSF emergency plan giving parents and the industry another reason to cheer.

“Kimberly Archie, director of the National Cheer Safety Foundation is a tireless advocate for safety in cheer and her foundation is a pioneering leader in promoting safety at all levels, including providing valuable information on emergency procedures that are critical to those who sustain serious injuries. The emergency plan is the most comprehensive available. I commend the NCSSE and the supporting companies for adopting the NCSF emergency plan,” notes Herb Appenzeller leader in the field of sport law and risk management, and member of four sport Halls of Fame.

Lisa Saline, founder and CEO of United Performing Association, Inc. adds, “Today is the beginning of a bright future in cheer safety. A partnership between NCSSE and the National Cheer Safety Foundation will insure quality safety education is available for all in the cheer industry.”

Passing on wisdom, Rusty McKinley, Spirit Coordinator from 1977 to 1985 of two-time cheerleading champions, Memphis State University, and cheer safety legend, says, “Cheerleaders are only as safe as the coaches training them.”

or a sport’s educator, administrator, trainer or coach, a broad base of knowledge is essential to stay ahead of the game. An advanced degree from a school of higher education has become increasingly necessary to prepare for a successful career in the sports field.

The Sports Journal explains, “Sport Education based upon the Sports Sciences is the key to managing Catastrophic Sports Injuries. Qualified, certified personnel are the first requirement for ensuring the health and safety of young athletes involved in physical activity and sports.” Dr. Enrico Esposito Director of Sports Medicine at the United States Sports Academy and editor of the journal says, “I am honored to work with the NCSF and NCSSE to assist them in their quest to formulate the first online coaches’ certification course at the college level.”

Veteran researcher Frederick O. Mueller Ph.D. declares, “The NCAA and NFHS should make cheer a sport, which would place it under the same restrictions and safety rules as all other high school sports.”
