Spiritual Scholars Meet Spirituality for Dummies
Sun Valley, ID, August 31, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Sharon Janis, award winning filmmaker, singer, and author of Spirituality For Dummies and Secrets of Spiritual Happiness will speak and perform devotional singing at the Sun Valley Spiritual Film Festival.
WHEN: September 8 –12, 2006
WHERE: Sun Valley Idaho, at the Opera House and other venues in town
On Sunday, September 10th, Sharon Janis will participate in a 3-person panel discussion on “Spirituality in America” with renowned spiritual scholars Matthew Fox and Nathan Katz, with the panel being moderated by Reverend Brian Baker. Janis will discuss how some of the specific cultural and technical qualities of today's world and media environment affect the availability and nature of spirituality today, and, as part of a discussion about the power and responsibility of spiritual filmmakers at this most fragile and media-friendly time in human history, Janis will share ideas from the ancient philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism, which holds many helpful concepts for creative artists -- positing that our creative powers are a microcosm of the universal creative powers, and how media artists choose what worlds they shall create, and what slice of life they will highlight for the benefit or detriment of humanity.
Janis will also offer a musical performance of “A Tapestry of Devotional Singing” with singing and chanting from Indian, Christian, and Buddhist traditions during the close of the festival, on September 12th.
"Bringing intelligent, authentic, and entertaining spiritual media to today's world is especially important and challenging, because we are competing with popular "junk food" films and shows with ten- or hundred-million-dollar budgets, big blockbuster stars, extraordinary special effects, and subliminal plot twists, music, and design elements that are intended to lock the viewer's attention on the screen, without regard for what positive or negative impressions and information their attention is being fed. The call and quest of spiritual filmmakers is to supply mentally, spiritually, and emotionally delicious and nutritious media meals that will help uplift our world, screen by screen, and viewer by viewer." – Sharon Janis
