About the Book (Excerpts & Info)
Two Californians headed to New England hoping to buy waterfront property. After an amazing encounter, they found themselves the owners of an 1828 lighthouse keeper’s cottage and the adjacent tower, badly in need of restoration.
The authors (Egyptologists at Brown University) spent 18 years facing many challenges: restoring the lighthouse, maintaining the seawall and antique cottage, experiencing ferocious winds and hurricanes. But they enjoyed researching their property’s history and hunting for antique furnishings and lighthouse tools while constantly interacting with the wildlife and water fowl at Nayatt Point on Narragansett Bay.
Their own adventures and research instilled in the authors a deep appreciation for the dedicated men and women who serviced America’s vital navigational aids preceding automation.
Lighthouse enthusiasts, nautical history buffs, or those involved with preservation of historic architecture or antiques collectors will find much to enjoy here.
Deftly constructed at 219 pages, Lighthouse Life is being aggressively promoted to appropriate markets with a focus on the Biography & Autobiography - Historical category. With U.S. wholesale distribution through Ingram and Baker & Taylor, and pervasive online availability through Amazon, Barnes & Noble and elsewhere, Lighthouse Life meets consumer demand through both retail and library markets with a suggested retail price of $15.95.
Additionally, Lighthouse Life can be ordered by retailers or wholesalers for the maximum trade discount price set by the author in quantities of ten or more from the Outskirts Press wholesale online bookstore at www.outskirtspress.com/buybooks

About the Author
Barbara Lesko and her husband Leonard (Professor Emeritus of Egyptology at Brown University) have authored many books and articles about Ancient Egypt, but now they have written their personal story of 18 years owning a lighthouse and living in its 1828 keeper’s cottage. Both native Chicagoans (with degrees from the University of Chicago) the couple lived in California for the first 16 years of their marriage when Leonard was on the faculty of the University of California, Berkeley.
They had enjoyed sailing on San Francisco Bay and longed for waterfront property, prohibitively expensive in California, so when presented with an offer from Brown University in Rhode Island, the Leskos headed to New England planning to pursue their dream. However, they had not anticipated buying a lighthouse, and the story of how this was accomplished is amazing in itself.
