D.C. Based Honor Society Rallies Members for Day of Service
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) has teamed up with Big Brother Big Sisters of the National Capital Area to connect college-aged students with kids (ages 7-14) in need of a big brother or sister on Sunday, August 16, 2009.
Washington, DC, July 31, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Every year, thousands of children are matched with mentors through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. However, many more are on a waiting list because there aren’t enough volunteers.
For this reason, The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) has teamed up with Big Brother Big Sisters of the National Capital Area to connect college-aged students with kids (ages 7-14) in need of a big brother or sister on Sunday, August 16, 2009.
Each member will be paired with a little brother or little sister who will use the “What’s Your Red Rubber Ball?!” Inspirational Activity Book, written by Kevin Carroll, one of the featured keynote speakers at Convention, to find and chase their dreams.
Kevin Carroll’s book is a combination workbook, journal, and project guide intended to encourage people of all ages to see beyond the here-and-now and discover dreams and goals to pursue.
“We’re very excited to be able to introduce these kids to Kevin and his amazing book,” said Steve Loflin, Executive Director of NSCS. “Most of the kids in the Big Brother Big Sister program just need someone to guide them. We feel that the combination of the book activity and interacting with high-achieving college students will inspire them on the path to their own academic and personal success.”
On the Day of Service, NSCS members will be in Washington, D.C. from all over the country to attend Convention, NSCS’ annual event to recognize chapter successes and exceptional member achievements over the past year.
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars annual Convention will take place from August 13 – 16 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel at 1000 H St. NW. Washington, DC 2001.
