Foundation Celebrates Derrick Thomas Entering Football Hall of Fame

Miami, FL, July 31, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The family of the late Kansas City Chiefs Linebacker Derrick Thomas would like for you to join them in celebration of Derrick's induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton on Aug. 8.

Thomas is known as one of the fiercest linebackers to ever play the game. He was selected All-Pro eight times and fans honored him with nine trips to the Pro Bowl. To this day, Thomas owns the record of seven quarterback sacks in a single game. Derrick still holds NFL records for number of sacks, interception and recoveries in a game, career records for sacks, forced fumbles and fumble recoveries for the Kansas City Chiefs.

During the ceremonies of Super Bowl 43, it was announced that Thomas would take his place in Canton alongside other football greats.

"We are all so thankful to Derrick's fans, voting members of the Hall and fellow Hall of Famers for honoring him with an enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame," says Edith Morgan, Thomas' mother. "We lost Derrick much too soon. His family and friends are comforted each day by hearing from his fans on how much he meant to them and their desire to see him in the Hall. We are so very thankful that he is being recognized for his achievements on and off the field, and we will continue his good works so that his legacy will shine forever."

Mrs. Morgan established the Moms 2 Moms 58 Foundation to honor her son's legacy and further his charitable spirit. The foundation works with professional football players, non-profits, community leaders, politicians, faith-based organizations and entertainers to educate the public on car seat and seatbelt safety, children's health issues and sports safety outreach to youth.

With the help of donors and previous grants from the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration, Moms 2 Moms 58 has traveled the country speaking to high school students on the importance of using seatbelts; organizing free car seat installation demonstrations and give-a-ways; and mobilizing athletes to speak in communities on various health and safety topics. Each year, Moms 2 Moms 58 hosts the "Celebration of Life Celebrity Weekend" in Derrick's hometown of Miami, FL. The Celebration of Life was established to honor the life and charitable works of Thomas through music, entertainment and fundraising for community enrichment programs. Moms 2 Moms 58 and Celebration of Life are administered through 501(c)(3) partnership.
