Final Winners Announced in the Animal Rescue Site's $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge with Petfinder.com: 74 Grants Given to Shelters and Rescue Organizations
Best Friends Animal Society of Kanab, UT, has won the grand prize of $20,000 in the Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge with Petfinder.com. More than 4 million votes were cast over the period of fifteen weeks by devoted animal lovers and a total of 74 grants ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 were given out.
Seattle, WA, August 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Best Friends Animal Society of Kanab, UT, has won the grand prize of $20,000 in The Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge with Petfinder.com. More than 4 million votes were cast over the period of fifteen weeks by devoted animal lovers throughout the United States, Canada, and the U.S. territories for the shelters and rescue organizations in the Petfinder.com network.
The public was encouraged to vote once a day for a favorite group, and supporters of more than 60 shelters were able to secure grants ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 for their organizations. A total of 74 grants equaling $100,000 were awarded during the Challenge.
The top five awards went to Best Friends Animal Society (Kanab, UT), $20,000; Seminole County Animal Services (Sanford, FL), $5,000; Rolling Dog Ranch Animal Sanctuary (Ovando, MT), $3,000; Days End Farm Horse Rescue (Lisbon, MD), $1,500; and Community Animal Rescue & Adoption Inc (Jackson, MS), $1,500.

Fifteen “weekly winner” grants of $1,000 each were also awarded during the Shelter+ Challenge. The Challenge began on April 15 and concluded on July 26. Winners were announced on July 29, 2009.
