iUniverse Author, TLC Personality Dr. Charles Hux Featured in June Podcast

Hux, an Obstetrician Specializing in Multiple Deliveries, Talks About Easing the Worries of Expectant Mothers.

Bloomington, IN, August 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- iUniverse, the leading book marketing, editorial services, and supported self publishing company, is featuring author Dr. Charles Hux in its monthly podcast.

Hux, who specializes in dealing with difficult pregnancies, has spent more than 25 years answering questions from and caring for expectant mothers. Over the course of his career, he estimates he’s delivered about 6,000 babies and treated 30,000 women.

In his book, Nine Healthy Months, Hux tackles common questions posed by moms-to-be. For Hux, the book is another vehicle for communicating with expectant mothers early on in the pregnancy—something Hux considers greatly important.

“I had been getting the same questions over and over,” said Hux. “I found that 95 percent of [pregnancy books] were written by nurse midwives, nurses, and medical writers, not by physicians.”

Hux said many of those pregnancy books are filled with feel-good information, but he decided to write a straightforward book to answer the common questions of the expectant mother.

“The book would be successful if I wrote it the way I have practiced medicine for the past two and a half decades,” he says. “And that is to explain to the patient what they need to know, the basics of any given problem or any topic in pregnancy, and telling them the risks and benefits of anything that should happen.”

Hux began hosting a talk show about pregnancy in the late 1980s and later joined Harpo Productions as Oprah’s high-risk-pregnancy specialist. Currently, millions of viewers each week see Hux on The Learning Channel’s A Baby Story, on which he delivers seven or eight babies per year.

Hux has often been asked by the media about another TLC show: Jon & Kate Plus 8. As a specialist in delivering multiples, his field has changed as the show gained popularity.

“Parents feel that it’s perfectly fine to have … triplets, quadruplets, and sextuplets, but the problem is anything past triplets has a tremendously high risk of birth defects or a bad outcome,” he said.
