BMC Messsysteme Launches Measurement System meM-INC for the Acquisition of Pulses and Frequencies at the PC
With the digital system for incremental encoders meM-INC from BMC Messsysteme GmbH (bmcm), signal pulses can be counted and frequencies measured via the USB interface.
Maisach, Germany, August 10, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Incremental encoders convert linear or rotating position changes into a digital signal. They are used as sensors for distance and angular measurements. Basically, their working principle consists in periodically arranged segments on a measuring stick or a disc producing electrical pulses during motion. The actual position is determined by the number of increments passed.
If an incremental encoder is connected with a PC measurement system, the electrical pulses of the digital signals can be recorded and analyzed.
BMC Messsysteme GmbH (bmcm), longtime manufacturer of PC instrumentation, offers the USB device meM-INC, a measurement system for the connection of up to three incremental encoders.
The galvanically isolated incremental encoder inputs allow for high-precision measurements in the 5-30V range.
To set the incremental encoders to the zero position, an external counter reset can be connected. Also, when exceeding the 32-bit counting range, the counter will be reset.
The three operating modes of the meM-INC provide multi-use options:
- pulse measurement
- incremental encoder mode
- frequency measurement
Pulse measurement is used for large quantities in industrial production, for example, or to automate processes. In this case, meM-INC records signals of up to 64kHz.
When connecting an incremental encoder, the counting direction is additionally considered so that in contrast to pulse measurements the encoder counts up and down. These sensors can be found in almost all industrial areas. They are used for example to determine the position of robot arms, printheads or computer mice. Since incremental encoders always generate two signals for counting and for directional reference, the maximum pulse frequency of the meM-INC is halved in this operating mode.
The ability to sample frequencies of up to 64kHz makes the meM-INC perfectly suitable for speed measurement at rotating shafts or machines. Three selectable gates are provided to optimize the device to the relevant measuring task. If a small gate is chosen, tiniest frequency changes can be detected. A high gate makes high-precision measurements of low frequencies possible.
Using the USB interface of the PC allows for easy connection and installation (Plug&Play), high mobility and flexibility. Drivers and software for programming and operating the device are included for free.
Additionally available at bmcm is NextView 4, the professional software for data acquisition and analysis.
In compliance to the motto of BMC Messsysteme GmbH the meM-INC provides a multifunctional USB solution with excellent price-performance ratio. For further information visit the bmcm website.

About BMC Messsysteme GmbH (bmcm)
BMC Messsysteme GmbH was founded in 1994 as an independent corporation with headquarters in Maisach, app. 30 km west of Munich. bmcm is one of the only German companies that completely develops and produces in Germany. The products of data acquisition and PC technology from BMC Messysteme GmbH stand for quality "made in Germany". A high value is set on keeping an excellent price/performance ratio. Since establishing a direct distribution in July 2006, customers have been able to profit from the advantage of direct contact to the manufacturer.
BMC Messsysteme GmbH serves the following business areas:
Measuring components and PC measurement technology
This comprises a wide range of connection systems, measuring amplifiers, data acquisition cards (internal and external), "ready-for-use" data acquisition systems, data loggers and the appropriate software for visualization, recording and analysis.
PC technology
This area includes embedded PCs developed as complete solutions as well as single PC components often used in the automotive field.
D2M (Design to Manufacturing) and OEM products
BMC Messsysteme GmbH develops and produces electronic components according to customer specifications.
You will receive high-quality products manufactured already since the beginning of 2006 according to the RoHS directive. Of course, the corresponding documentation and CE test is always included.
A German documentation is obligatory for us, as well as an English description to be available to our international customers.
