Minnesota Online School Adds K-6 Program
MCoOL offers high-tech, high-touch online K-12 education; holds informational events in communities statewide. The Minnesota Center of Online Learning (MCoOL), a program of the Houston Public School District #294, is expanding to serve more students statewide. The expansion to add grades K-6 is being spurred by the growing demand for online education among all ages. Minnesota residents can enroll tuition-free, either full- or part-time until August 19 for the upcoming 2009-10 school year.
Houston, MN, August 08, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Minnesota Center of Online Learning (MCoOL), a program of the Houston Public School District #294, is expanding to serve more students statewide. The expansion to add grades K-6 is being spurred by the growing demand for online education among all ages. Minnesota residents can enroll tuition-free, either full- or part-time until August 19 for the upcoming 2009-10 school year, which begins September 8.
“We have seen how middle and high school students excel with the individualized curriculum and attention and we want to expand that opportunity to more students at different grade levels,” said MCoOL Director Steve Kerska.
MCoOL is a public online school open to Minnesota students in grades K – 12. It is known for its reputation as the school of choice for Advance Placement courses, academic rigor, highly experienced teachers, and commitment to individualized attention to help each student succeed. The school takes a high-tech, high-touch approach to education that begins with a high-quality, state-aligned curriculum, supported by experienced teachers licensed in Minnesota, academic advisors and counselors. Because classes are conducted online, MCoOL offers free use of a loaned laptop computer to all full-time students who request them for the duration of their active enrollment, along with any required textbooks.
“We maintain a strong commitment to personal attention and the academic success of our students,” said Kerska. “While we utilize cutting-edge technology to deliver education, we remain true to our small community roots by investing the time to get to know each student and tailor educational plans to meet individual needs and interests.”
MCoOL counselors work with each student to design an individually-tailored academic program designed to fit their learning needs, interests and post-high school goals. With a rich and comprehensive K-6 curriculum and more than 100 middle and high school courses available, students and counselors work together to create an optimal plan for each student. The award-winning curriculum includes core courses found in a traditional school setting, including Math, Science and English, as well as a wide range of electives including over 15 World Language courses, over 20 Advanced Placement courses, and high-tech classes such as Digital Video Production, Game Design, and Flash Animation.
MCoOL’s individual attention extends to the classroom, where the school’s dedicated teachers interact with students in a virtual “classroom” and are available for students by email and phone. MCoOL also has an online “common area” where students can meet and interact real-time.
