"Gold" and "the Mercury Men" Pair Up for Spectacular Screenings at GenCon Indy

Los Angeles, CA, August 09, 2009 --(PR.com)-- "Gold", the critically-acclaimed rpg webseries that does double damage, and "The Mercury Men", a hotly anticipated new webseries from the creators of the Streamy Award nominated Captain Blasto, will be featured in back-to-back screenings on August 14 and August 15 at GenCon Indy in Indianapolis, IN.

This is the first time "Gold", which has been streaming online to enthusiastic audiences since November of 2008, will be screened in a traditional setting outside of the internet. "GenCon is a perfect fit for "Gold", and I'm incredibly excited to have our first off-line screenings there," said "Gold" creator David Nett. "GenCon is the original gathering place for role playing gamers, and a huge part of our culture. I'm a gamer, I made "Gold" for gamers, "Gold" is about gamers, and I'm incredibly excited to be there."

GenCon will also mark the first public screenings for upcoming Sci-Fi webseries "The Mercury Men", though creator Christopher Preksta has screened other work at GenCon in the past. "We've screened our past five films at GenCon and it's always a great time," said Preksta. "We look forward to it every year. Not only do we get to share and discuss our stories, we get to play as many fantastic games as one weekend will allow."

Preksta and Nett met at the 2009 Streamy Awards, and began discussing some sort of convention team-up shortly thereafter. "It was actually Chris who had the idea of us screening back to back at GenCon," said Nett. "Independently produced series like ours need to stick together. Plus, I've been dreaming of going to GenCon since I was a kid."

"The Mercury Men" screens at GenCon Friday, August 14th at 8PM and Saturday, August 15 at 3PM. "Gold" will screen immediately afterward on both days (9PM on 8/14 and 4PM on 8/15). Friday's screenings will be in Westin: Capital III, with Saturday's screenings in Westin: Capital I. Screenings will be followed by discussions with the creators and giveaways of promotional materials. About "Gold"

"Gold" is a comedy television series for the web about the lives and struggles of professional tabletop role playing gamers prepping for the World Goblins & "Gold" Championship. As the teams of elite athletes wrestle with professional and personal demons, they must all face a greater threat: the decline of their proud but aging sport in the face of the growing popularity of massively multiplayer online games. Told with a subtle blend of comedy and drama, "Gold" is at once a parody of the portrayal of sports and athletes in television and film, and a loving tribute to the geekily wonderful world of traditional pen and paper role playing games.
