In the 1960s in New York City, every young boy dreamed of playing for the Yankees. The difference was that Fritz Peterson was born with a pitcher’s arm that would take him to “the Show.” In his rookie year, in 1966, Peterson had the opportunity to play with Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Fritz Peterson was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on February 8, 1942. He grew up in the Chicago area where he graduated from Northern Illinois University, earning three degrees. He signed with the New York Yankees out of college and went on to become the best pitcher of all time in earned run average (ERA) in historic Yankee Stadium. Today he travels from New York to Colorado raising money for prostate cancer research, and writes books about the grace of God.
