Mike James of the Washington Wizards hosted the 5th Annual Mike James Day Celebration on Saturday, July 25th from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Bolden Mack Park in Amityville, New York.
New York, NY, August 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Mike James of the Washington Wizards hosted the 5th Annual Mike James Day (MJD) on Saturday, July 25th from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Bolden Mack Park in Amityville, New York.
The Mike James Foundation partnered with MANNA, Rock the Block and Teen Challenge to host the largest free event the city has ever seen. The family friendly, free day in the park included free bbq, sno cones, popcorn, face painting, children's rides, rock walls, caricatures and balloon animals. Mike James Day also featured a Free hip hop gospel concert, hip hop break dancers, and a celebrity basketball game with the Mike James’ Amityville All Stars vs. The Ultimate Sizzle Street Tour with Hot Sauce, Spyda, 50, I’ll B Right Back and other former And 1 Players.
To kick off the festivities, the Foundation hosted its First Annual Golf Classic at the world-renowned Bethpage State Park’s Red Course on Wednesday, July 22nd. The tournament raised enough money to establish the Mike James Foundation Scholarship Program at Mike’s alma mater, Amityville High.
Mike and fellow Amityville High Alumni basketball players also worked with local youth during The Mike James Basketball Experience (MJBE), a free invitation only, youth basketball camp held at Amityville High on Thursday, July 23rd from 9am-3pm.
“The 2009 Mike James Day was truly a success. The Teen Challenge ministry saved quite a few young people that evening which was incredible.” Mike further stated “ We were able to give away refrigerators, bikes, plasma TV’s and just bless the people of Amityville as I’ve been blessed. It was wonderful that for one day we could have thousands of families in the park and not one incident. I appreciate all of the support from Rock the Block and Manna. We could not have done it without their help!”
