Met Office Revised Summer Forecast Ruins Plan for 2bacting's New Play
Promotion plans for the new play SPIKE have been ruined now that the Met Office has changed the weather forecast for the summer.
Leeds, United Kingdom, September 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- When the Met Office announced that the summer was set to be barbecue weather the producers of the stage play, SPIKE, decided to advertise by having the actors go out on the streets dressed in their beachwear costumes.
David Jones, the play’s writer/director said, “It was rather disappointing when the Met Office changed the forecast and now predicts a ‘wash out’ because the idea was an excellent way to grab attention and get the word out about the play”.
The reason for the beachwear promotion came from the subject of the play which is based around two characters, Kirsty Ryan (played by Edit Petersen) and Natalie Bebo (played by Anastasia Ampatzoglou) playing the part of the UK women’s beach volley ball team in the 2012 Olympic games along with the team coach Amanda (played by Victoria Delaney).
David Jones said, “We were hoping for sunshine as the actors made it clear they wouldn’t do it without it and that’s why the announcement has not helped.”
2bacting hasn’t completely dumped the idea and are considering buying transparent plastic rain coats for the actors to wear over their bikini costumes. This may not make the best fashion statement but should get them noticed.
SPIKE performances are at Seven Arts Space Theatre, Chapel Allerton LS7 3PD (9 & 10 Sep), The Carriageworks Studio Theatre, Leeds LS2 3AD (23 & 24 Sep) and Bradford Studio Theatre, Bradford BD7 1AJ (16 & 17 Oct) at 7pm, with a special performance at Ilkley Literature Fringe Festival on 13 October in support of Pinnacle Fusion. Advanced tickets for the play are available at www.spikeplay.co.uk.
