Nation-Wide Flow Tour Rides in Town for Championships
The 2009 Wave Loch Flow Tour National Championships will be held August 14th through 16th at Waterville USA in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Gulf Shores, AL, August 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- After a five month-long tour that has traveled to all corners of the nation, the 2009 Wave Loch Flow Tour surfs into town for its National Championships, which will be held August 14th through 16th at Waterville USA in Gulf Shores, Ala. Previously held in a west coast beach town, the tour changed venues for 2009 and opted to end the 16-stop nationwide tour in coastal Alabama.
More than 150 athletes from 12 states will be competing in 13 divisions of bodyboarding and flowboarding in this season finale AAA rated national championship event. The national championship and tour championship are both at stake in addition to a $20,000 purse of cash and prizes.
2008 expert tour champion Sean Silveira will be on hand to defend his title and hopefully claim the $1,000 first place check. Also on hand are Nick Nguyen (current points leader in drop knee and expert bodyboard divisions) and local Christian Cook, who is a favorite to capture the junior flowboard tour title and the expert bodyboard division title.
A practice session runs from noon to 5:00 p.m. on Friday followed by competition from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Another practice session will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with competition from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The finals will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Sunday.
Spectators will not be charged a fee to watch the Flow Tour competition.
Entertainment will be provided by the juggling duo Root Berry.
The Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission will welcome these upcoming events: USSSA Gulf Coast Border Wars Baseball Tournament (September 12-13) Brett Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon (September 19), the Perdido Beach Resort Flora-Bama Soccer Classic (September 19-20) and USTA Alabama League State Tri-Level Championships (September 24-27).
