Registration Open for AIA Michigan’s 17th Annual Educational Facilities Conference
Event to Focus on “School Bond Issues—The Real Economic Stimulus”
Traverse City, MI, August 22, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The American Institute of Architects Michigan (AIA Michigan) announced the opening of registration for its 17th Annual Educational Facilities Conference, Oct. 15-16 at the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City, Mich.
The Educational Facilities Conference is an annual event that provides school administrators, educational planners, architects, engineers, construction managers and other interested professionals with the latest information to assist in planning, financing, designing, constructing and maintaining educational facilities.
Titled “School Bond Issues—The Real Economic Stimulus,” this year’s event will focus on school planning trends and how important bond issues are to the local economy of your community. Attendance is limited to the first 320 registrants.
“Particularly in these tough economic times, school bonds are important for the continued growth and development of our schools,” said Ralph Moxley, AIA, of the Conference Organizing Committee. “Our goal is to help these administrators learn how to communicate with potential supporters and stakeholders and the importance of building these relationships.”
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Michael Flanagan and Senate Fiscal Agency Director Gary Olson are among the speakers during the event. Flanagan will be the keynote speaker on the morning of Oct. 15 and discuss the impact of bond issues on the local economy of Michigan school districts. Olson will provide an update on the State’s financial situation and its impact on public schools.
Another special feature will be a presentation from Michigan-based Steelcase on the research and design of its “Learn Lab,” specifically how it can change the classroom of the future to improve student teamwork and student engagement in the learning process. Participants will have the opportunity to experience and use this unique learning environment during the conference.
The Michigan Association of School Administrators (MASA), Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB), Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO), Council of Educational Facility Planners, and the Michigan Department of Treasury will co-sponsor the conference.
