AIA Michigan and AIA Detroit Executive Director Rae J. Dumke, Hon. AIA, to be Inducted Into MSAE Hall of Fame

Detroit, MI, August 22, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Michigan and AIA Detroit announced that Executive Director Rae J. Dumke, Hon. AIA, will be a 2009 inductee into the Michigan Association Hall of Fame in a ceremony hosted at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham on Sept. 23.

The highest honor bestowed upon an association executive by the Michigan Society of Association Executives (MSAE), the Michigan Association Hall of Fame was inaugurated to honor those individuals who have excelled in the association management profession; bring honor and recognition to MSAE; and inspire individuals and students to consider careers in the association management profession.

This award signifies a demonstrated ability and commitment to going beyond the expected standards of service and professionalism and reflects outstanding leadership and achievement in association management.

Dumke has been involved with the AIA since 1967, starting as a secretary before progressing to her current role as Executive Director in 1984. Since then, the Grosse Pointe Farms resident has shown an unfaltering commitment to architecture and the profession, currently leading AIA Michigan, managing AIA Detroit and the Michigan Architectural Foundation (MAF) and providing support to AIA’s nine chapters throughout Michigan.

Under Dumke’s leadership as executive director, the organization has instituted new accounting, dues and office systems; created a sorely needed reserve fund; led the funding, purchasing and renovation of a historically significant building in downtown Detroit, which currently serves as AIA Michigan/AIA Detroit and the Michigan Architectural Foundation headquarters; expanded advocacy efforts; furthered the practice of architecture in the state; established Innovative programming, partnerships and public outreach; and created guides and books that are read throughout Michigan.

Dumke was awarded the prestigious AIA Honorary Membership by AIA Detroit in 1984, AIA Michigan in 1987 and AIA National in 1990. She also has served and led in the national, state and city levels of AIA, including serving on the AIA Council of Architectural Component Executives.

“I have known Rae since I joined AIA more than 30 years,” said AIA Michigan President Ronald R. Campbell, AIA. “She has always been on top of things and, as executive director, she has kept us in business. Working with the variety of people that she has over the years requires a special touch that only she can provide. She has been such a value to AIA Michigan, AIA Detroit and Michigan Architectural Foundation. This is a well-deserved honor for a great executive director and friend.”

Dumke has served the MSAE in various capacities, including as chair from 2002-2003. In 2002, she also received the MSAE Executives Key Award in 2002. She is currently a member of the American Society of Association Executives and is active with the Michigan Society of Association Executives.

Through the years, Dumke has been civically involved with Leadership Detroit, Save Orchestra Hall and the Junior League of Detroit Hospice Project. She also is a founding member of the Friends of Belle Isle, and initiated the Art in Architecture program for the Henry Ford Hospital’s Oncology Department.
