Single Mother Designs Jewelry to Fund Single Parent Organizations in US and Abroad
Finally, a universal symbol for single parents everywhere. Letitia Johnson collaborated with custom jeweler to design charm.
Baltimore, MD, August 26, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In March 2008, Letitia Johnson, a single parent in Baltimore, Maryland (US) found herself in a crisis. Problems were abounding and it seemed there was nowhere to turn. Rather than giving in to the depression and having a pity-party, she finally took the advice of her mother and grandmother and picked up the Bible hoping for divine inspiration.
She opened the book at “random” and started reading Genesis 21: 14-21 and got the inspiration to design a charm symbolizing God’s divine promises to single parents.
After doing some research, Letitia discovered there are 13.8 million single parents in the United States alone. She eventually collaborated with a custom jeweler and designed, Hagar’s Well©. This stately designed charm is made from pewter and can simply be added to a necklace or bracelet. Letitia’s intention is to provide a symbol of hope, encouragement and love to single parents everywhere. “Veterans are awarded medals, married couples have their wedding bands, love is symbolized with hearts, what about single parents? We need something, too,” said Letitia. “Additionally, I would like it to be a constant reminder to all who wear the charm that they are not alone. Single parenting is not an easy task.”
What she hopes to do is get these charms in the hands of at least one million single parents within the next 30 days. “Not only do I want to raise funds for support organizations like Parents Without Partners and Gingerbread in the United Kingdom but also raise awareness and celebrate the accomplishments of single parents. Raising children, managing jobs and households is not an easy task, especially in these tough economic times,” Letitia added.

In 2010, Letitia hopes to host an international single parent conference in Baltimore, Maryland to empower, encourage and enlighten single parents. “I envision conferences sponsored by companies who recognize the growing trend of single parent households and our value in the marketplace.”
