Logistics Firms Show Strong Support for TransOman Conference in October

Over thirty companies which form the Advisory Committee for the TransOman Expo and Conference, have once again convened to share practical insights on the various issues and developments pertaining to the logistics sector. The ideas generated serve as fundamental ingredients in the formulation of relevant topics and agenda for this year’s inaugural transport, shipping and logistics forum.

Muscat, Oman, August 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The TransOman Conference which is set to be held from 14th to 15th October at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Muscat, will be held alongside the Exhibition, from 13th to 15th October at the Oman International Exhibition Centre.

Leading the team of key industry players from the sea, air and land sectors, is Mr. Warith Al Kharusi, Logistics Manager, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), saying, “The TransOman Conference is an integrated platform that brings together gung-ho players in the logistics sector with one common goal, which is to build Oman as the next international logistics hub”.

“Oman’s logistics element is now booming with the country’s various infrastructure projects. The TransOman Conference and Exhibition will highlight this progress and will bring in global best practices from industry experts. The Advisory Committee gather together to create a structured approach on how we, the industry players, can move forward the logistics discipline in Oman”, Kharusi said.

The formulation of the TransOman Advisory Committee is aimed to ensure that preparations for the upcoming event are put into proper order and that all areas of logistics are highlighted at this year’s inaugural forum.

With the Sultanate’s diversification strategy now on the upswing, the logistics sector has grown in leaps and bounds. Land transport, no doubt, has grown over the years, along with sea and air logistics. This year, the Ministry of Transport and Communications signed seventeen agreements worth RO84.8 million as part of the government’s effort in developing Oman’s infrastructure. The agreement includes the construction of roads, long dual carriageways and bridges across the country. “Oman has a lot of activities as an international hub and the Conference will look at the growth, expansion and the issues and challenges facing these sectors”, said Kharusi.

“Full preparations for the upcoming Conference are underway with a line-up of high level speakers from the GCC and across the Asia-Pacific region,” said Nick Hodge, Managing Director of Oman International Trade and Exhibition, the event organizer. Individuals who want to get regular updates on the upcoming TransOman Expo and Conference are encouraged to log on to www.trans-oman.com.

The two-day forum will present land transport opportunities and shed light on business development factors, including present and future development plans; investments in infrastructure; assessment and their impact on the transport and logistics industry in the country.

The Conference will also highlight land transport optimisation as well as strategies to improve road safety and airport development projects. Oman’s modernisation and development programs of its six international airports in Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, Duqm and Adam are indeed a big boost to the logistics sector.

The forum will likewise tackle the industrial and infrastructure of Port of Sohar, which has been ranked as among the fastest port development of modern times and is projected to provide direct employment to around 8,000 people.
