Business as Usual for First Atlantic Commerce as Hurricane Bill Passes to the Island’s West
It was Business as usual for First Atlantic Commerce as Hurricane Bill passed to the West of Bermuda last Saturday the 22nd of August.
Hamilton, Bermuda, August 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Bermuda-based First Atlantic Commerce Ltd. (FAC), a leading international, online multi-currency payment gateway, provided online payment processing in a “business as usual” manner to its merchants, while Bill, a Category Three hurricane, passed 166 nautical miles west-southwest of the Island.
Hurricane Bill churned past Bermuda early on Saturday morning, leaving behind stormy sea conditions, debris and some flooding, but no major structural damage. Up to 3700 homes across the island lost power during the storm, caused by debris falling onto wires and winds blowing out switches. Electricity across the island has now been restored, roads have been cleared of debris, and the island is operating as normal.
FAC’s payment gateway platform is hosted at the Cable and Wireless facility, which maintains independent power supply and is a world-class hurricane proof facility. As anticipated, there was no impact to FAC’s payment systems during the storm, and FAC continued to offer payment processing services to Internet-based customers around the globe.
“As in the past with other hurricanes impacting the island, FAC was able to continue processing without interruption. This is a testament to FAC’s team, its skills and forward planning, our telecommunications infrastructure, processing network and service reliance,” said FAC’s CEO, Andrea Wilson.
The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June 1st to November 30th.
Headquartered in Bermuda, and established in 1998 to create secure card–based payment solutions for ebusinesses, FAC provides powerful technology designed to work with most merchant platforms, including Microsoft, UNIX, and LINUX platforms. FAC’s cGate technology offers service, flexibility and security to adapt to many business and bank acquirer requirements. Business solutions such as 3–D Secure Payer Authentication, IP Geolocation, Virtual Corporations and offshore multi–currency payment solutions are available in various international jurisdictions.
