The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura will host a free presentation for people affected by cancer entitled: Frankly Speaking About Cancer Treatment with Barbara Hornsby, RN/BSN.
Westlake Village, CA, August 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura will host a free presentation for people affected by cancer entitled: Frankly Speaking About Cancer Treatment with Barbara Hornsby, RN/BSN. The program will explore ways to help manage the physical and psychological effects of cancer treatment. This free workshop takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, at The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura, 530 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village. “As people live longer with cancer, effectively managing the physical and psychological effects of treatment is increasingly important to improving quality of life,” said Marty Nason, VP of Programs at The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura. Today more than 10 million Americans are cancer survivors, many of whom regularly receive a range of cancer-related treatments.
Workshop presenter Barbara Hornsby, RN/BSN is a registered nurse specializing in oncology for over 20 years. She currently works at the UCLA Hematology & Oncology clinic of Westlake Village providing chemotherapy treatments and education. Attendees will receive a copy of the comprehensive Frankly Speaking About Cancer Treatment booklet. Frankly Speaking About Cancer Treatment is part of a “Frankly Speaking” series of national cancer-related programs created by The Wellness Community. Frankly Speaking About Cancer Treatment is made possible through an unrestricted educational grant from Amgen Inc.
Founded in 1982, The Wellness Community is an international non-profit organization dedicated to providing free support, education and hope to people with cancer and their loved ones at over 100 locations worldwide including 24 U.S.-based and 2 international centers with 73 satellite and off-site programs. Through participation in professionally-led support groups, educational workshops, nutrition and exercise programs, and stress-reduction classes, people affected by cancer learn vital skills that enable them to regain control, reduce isolation and restore hope regardless of the stage of their disease.
