Boys Town Nevada Receives $50,000 Grant from MGM Mirage Voice Foundation

Las Vegas, NV, August 29, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In these tough economic times, experts predict that the likelihood that parents will neglect or abuse their children increases in direct proportion to their stress level. Recognizing the need to provide support and resources to families in crisis, the MGM Mirage Voice Foundation awarded Boys Town Nevada’s In-Home Family Based services department a $50,000 grant to continue to provide help, healing and hope to desperate families on the verge of collapse. The grant will give Boys Town Nevada the funds to serve an additional 15 families and 38 children in need.

Since its inception in 2005, Boys Town’s In-Home Family department has helped 1,891 hurting families in Southern Nevada. The intensive program focuses on increasing parental capabilities, use of effective discipline, creating structure, use of a motivational system, and connecting families to community resources with the purpose to strengthen family unity. Dysfunctional families can gain the strength, skills, and resources to solve problems, deal with its members effectively and improve their sense of health and well–being. 93% of families that have completed this program since 2005 have stayed together and 99% of all families would refer other families to the program. As unemployment and foreclosure rates continue to soar, there has been a 39 percent increase in families requesting services, compared to 2008. Twenty or more families remain on a waiting list.

For nearly 20 years, Boys Town Nevada has provided a safe place to call home for countless at-risk children who have suffered abandonment, abuse and neglect. Boys Town Nevada’s continuum of programs are designed to provide children and families the right care at the right time. For more information, please visit www.boystownnevada.org.
