Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) Licenses eComPress to Produce Electronic Publications
SBS Radio, TV and Online Staff set to have immediate desktop access to the organisation’s Style Guide, Codes of Practice and Editorial Guidelines.
Sydney, Australia, August 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Leading Australian developer of electronic publishing technology, Eurofield Information Solutions, (EIS) today announced that the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) has licensed their eComPress technology with the intention of using it to produce their electronic reference manuals.
Initial documents to be published in eComPress include the SBS Style Guide, Codes of Practice and Editorial Style Guide. The eComPress manuals are designed to give journalists, producers, newsreaders and presenters immediate and authoritative guidance to the broadcaster’s specific editorial style and codes of practice. The completed manuals will be made available to 800 staff across SBS.

SBS was looking for a cost effective and efficient way to replace a manual process of production and distribution of these manuals throughout the organisation. In particular they were keen to ensure SBS employees had easy access to the most up to date information on editorial standards, preferred terminology and the corporation’s Codes of Practice. SBS is working closely with EIS to ensure the eComPress solution is a success.
SBS staff will have immediate access to their eComPress electronic manuals by dragging and dropping words onto an SBS logoed Drag-on icon on their computer screens. The manuals are compact and fast to access, with data compressed to less than 10% of its original size. All content is highly searchable with precise answers to search queries being returned in seconds. Users can easily collaborate in context with each other by sharing personal annotations, without compromising the authenticity of the original reference information.
Because these publications will be used in a broadcast production environment, SBS needed a system that was fast and easily searchable, easy for people to access and learn and that could be open on their desktops all the time.
