Pro Energy Consultant Awards First Home Energy Auditing Franchise to Louisiana
Pro Energy Consultant Franchise Owner Mike Trew now offering comprehensive home energy audits to homeowners in three parishes: St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Livingston. Energy audit will show homeowners exactly where their home is losing energy and provide recommendations for improvements that will reduce their energy costs.
Covington, LA, September 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Mike Trew, who recently retired from a 35-year career in the oil field service industry, has decided his next passion in life will be helping people reduce energy usage and save the environment.
Trew was recently awarded a Pro Energy Consultants home energy auditing franchise, the first in Louisiana and one of nearly 30 nationwide. His territory covers the parishes of St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Livingston.
Pro Energy Consultants, the nation’s first home energy auditing franchise, provides homeowners standardized, comprehensive energy audits designed to maximize the home’s comfort and energy efficiency while reducing energy costs. Franchise owners undergo extensive training at the company’s headquarters in Cleveland before beginning the business.
After retiring last February, Trew thought long and hard about what he’d like to do next, and he knew it had to fulfill his passion for helping people and saving the environment.
“I rolled those two into one and said, ‘Let me see if there’s something out there’ and I found Pro Energy Consultants,” said Trew, who has been busy doing audits since completing the company in-depth training at its Cleveland headquarters.
Trew said homeowners often ask him if they need new windows, if their air conditioner is rated high enough for their home, or if they need new insulation.
“My answer to all those questions is we just don’t know, and that’s why we have to test,” said Trew, who added he’s seen several homes with bonus rooms, either above a garage or in the attic, that have been extremely energy inefficient due to lack of insulation.
“Awareness is the first step towards improvement and a home energy audit is the first step in assessing how much energy your home consumes,” said Trew. “My job is to provide homeowners with a course of action designed to help them save energy, save money and contribute to the sustainability of our environment.”
One of Trew’s customers, Byron Hoover of Madisonville, agrees: “The service is economical and environmentally prudent.”
Pro Energy Consultants uses state-of-the-art infrared imaging and blower-door testing to determine wasteful energy and the reasons for comfort issues (such as poor indoor air quality) in a home or facility. The process begins when an electronic blower door is installed in an exterior door. Once activated, the blower door allows the energy auditor to in essence take an “X-ray” of the home by using infrared thermal imaging to identify all the hidden building leakage areas—the real cause for excessive energy usage and major comfort complaints. A detailed report with prioritized recommendations for increasing the energy efficiency and comfort of the home is delivered to the homeowner within days of the energy audit.
“The report, complete with full color infrared photos of the problem areas, was full of detailed information about how much energy my home was losing in a form that I could understand,” said Connor Brown of Madisonville. “It concluded with practical recommendations that I could do myself, for correcting the issues raised during the audit.”
According to Trew, Pro Energy’s comprehensive testing and technical equipment gives homeowners a clear picture of exactly where their home is losing energy, and therefore, wasting money.
“It’s great to have Mike as part of our team,” said Pro Energy Consultants Managing Partner Derek Sola. “Louisiana is a great market for us. We’ve seen a tremendous amount of interest in this area from homeowners who are looking for affordable solutions for solving their comfort issues and reducing energy usage.”
According to Sola, his company has experienced considerable growth since being founded in 2008. He attributes this to the nation’s increased focus on fiscal responsibility and energy conservation. For example, several states are beginning to subsidize and reward homeowners who make their homes more energy efficient. The City of Austin now requires all sellers of non-exempt residential properties within the city limits to complete an energy audit and provide an energy audit report to prospective homebuyers prior to the sale. Nevada has passed legislation making energy audits mandatory in the near future. Many more states are considering similar legislation. In addition, many states will receive millions of dollars this year in stimulus grants for energy-efficient projects, including weatherization of homes.
