Cochrane Chosen as New CEO of Southern California Presbyterian Homes

Glendale, CA, September 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- John H. Cochrane III has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Southern California Presbyterian Homes, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit providers of senior living, health care and support services. His appointment took effect on Aug. 10.

Cochrane’s selection by the SCPH Board of Directors follows an extensive national search that generated more than 100 applicants, according to Board Chair David R. Decker. “While we had many excellent candidates, in the end the Board felt that John’s management skills, coupled with a strong vision for the future of senior housing and support services, would provide SCPH with the leadership it would need in the next stage in our development,” said Decker.

Cochrane, 48, most recently served as chief operating officer at Des Moines-based Life Care Retirement Communities, the country’s fifth-largest nonprofit operator of senior living communities. At LCRC Cochrane managed a network of 11 communities in seven states serving 4,500 residents.

He began his career in senior living in 1993 at Erickson Living, where he oversaw development and served as the first executive director of Oak Crest Village, a $150-million retirement community in the Baltimore area. His extensive experience in managing retirement communities is complemented by a background in housing development and as a practicing attorney in the areas of finance and real estate.

Cochrane is only the sixth president and CEO in SCPH’s 54-year history. He succeeds Gerald W. Dingivan, who led SCPH for 23 years prior to his retirement on July 1.

Glendale, Calif.-based Southern California Presbyterian Homes is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing quality housing, health and support services for more than 5,200 older adults of all faiths throughout California. Since its founding in 1955, SCPH has developed a broad range of programs and services which include residential living, assisted care and skilled nursing provided through six Continuing Care Retirement Communities and four Assisted Living Residences/Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly; home care and adult day care services; and 25 affordable housing communities.
