Highest Wind Scores Speed Venture Summit™ Invitation
Nashua, NH, September 03, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Speed Venture Summit™ vision is to help launch the best companies by providing them ready access to private capital. Highest Wind, a developer of breakthrough wind-energy systems based in Newmarket, New Hampshire, seeks to soar beyond that launch as one of the first companies selected to pitch at the October 28 Summit, the premier speed-dating-style event for fast-growth businesses and investors in New England, co-hosted by the New Hampshire High Technology Council and the New Hampshire Small Business Development Center, and brought to you by Gold Sponsor Comcast Business Class.
“We applaud the creativity of the technology team at Highest Wind,” said Summit producer Tim Platt. “Taking a page from ‘Colonel’ Edwin Drake’s oil-drilling playbook, they have developed a system to tap the sources of wind where they are strongest—at higher altitudes—and thereby greatly expand the global viability of this renewable energy resource.”
Matt Benson, chair of the Speed Venture Summit™ selection committee, agreed: “New technologies and new solutions are critical in the green tech market, and our investors want to see companies like Highest Wind offering new ways to solve the challenges of wind-energy production.”
Highest Wind was founded in 2008 by CEO Dimitri Cherny. Highest Wind’s “Energy Gliders™” will be cost-effective for locations comprising more than 50% of the planet. Energy Gliders will harvest the winds 1,000 feet above the ground. At that height, more than half of the earth has adequate average wind speeds to produce electrical power.
“We look forward to leveraging our patent-pending technology with capital sourced through the Speed Venture Summit process,” said Cherny. “The Summit provides us an ideal opportunity to meet directly with the top clean-tech sector investors and pitch them our growth story. It is an honor to be selected, and we intend to make the most of it.”
At the October Summit, participating businesses will represent all sectors and development stages, from start-up to later-stage and will “speed pitch” to the region’s savviest and shrewdest investors, ranging from individuals and Angels to venture capital firms and private equity and mezzanine financers. Organizers expect that a total of approximately 50 companies will speed-pitch to 25 different investor groups in private 1:1 sessions throughout the afternoon.
The “speed-pitching” segment of the Summit will be held from 2:00 to 5:00pm, and will be followed by a two-hour business networking session open to the public that will provide an excellent opportunity for young companies to gain exposure and knowledge around seeking investment capital. The event will end with a pitch-off from among the day’s top companies.
