Construction Digital Magazine Gleans Insights from White House Fellow Charles Garcia
Also in the September issue, affordable housing commitments provide opportunities for builders and developers worldwide.
Carlsbad, CA, September 04, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Construction Digital magazine, found on ConstructionDigital.com (www.constructiondigital.com), sought the expertise of Charles Garcia to learn more about the lessons detailed in his new book Leadership Lessons of the White House Fellows. While many feel leaders of vision and foresight are few and far between, Garcia argues that many individuals, both past and present, have insights worth heeding. As a White House Fellow, U.S. Air Force Academy graduate, and New York Times best-seller, Garcia also serves on the boards of Fortune 500 companies and the Board of Visitors for the US Air Force Academy.
Asked why the world is in the throes of one of the worst economic collapses, Garcia says it boils down to “a lack of accountability and a lack of leadership in business, politics and society in general…There really has been just an overall breakdown with people focused on money, greed, power, prestige and fame, all the wrong things.”

In a refreshing break from the doom and gloom, Construction Digital magazine found that governments worldwide are committing to building affordable housing – a boon to not only builders and developers but also to low-to-middle income families. Included in the future growth are a £2.1 billion commitment to building social housing in Britain and billions of dollars allocated to public housing in the US. In Canada, meanwhile, the government is committed to housing affordability and choice, recently providing 17 new grants worth more than $84,000.
In reference to Britain’s contribution to affordable housing, Kevin Willetts, Group Sales & Marketing Director at the UK social house builder, Rok Group, says, “It is pleasing to see that social housing remains among this Government’s top priorities and that it is aiming to fulfill its promise of building 155,000 new homes before 2011.”
