SORTED is an energetic student based organisation keen to make a difference to university life by ‘challenging the student diet’ and taking the chore out of cooking. They have a published book (SORTED: a recipe for student survival) but want to offer more, using online media, to students about to take the step into independent life.
London, United Kingdom, September 08, 2009 --(PR.com)-- As a group of eight current students and recent graduates near the end of their academic lives and venture into the real world they are daunted to realise that there is no value in joining the queue for employment in the current climate. These circumstances have forced the crew to kick-start their own careers a different way. But how?
Knowing little about the world of business they have focused on what they do know – student grub, social media and having fun. With a gifted chef on board and an appreciation for food shared by the team it seemed the obvious choice.
They had all, with the exception of the resident chef, eaten badly at university and wished they had stayed healthier, ideally saving money in the process for those all important nights out. This was their chance to spread the word and lend a fun, yet responsible, helping hand to fellow students, who might be about to make the same mistakes as they enter the world of independency.
The foundation of their efforts is a self-published student survival book, refreshed this summer to include loads more content from other students they’ve met along their journey. “SORTED: a recipe for student survival” is crammed full of balanced, innovative, cheap and tasty recipes is also seasoned with first-hand tips and tricks relating to every aspect of student life - budgeting, shopping, studying and of course partying.
To help promote the message as they aim to take the chore out of cooking they tap into an area they know so well, namely YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, and do what comes naturally. Build up a student community with a whole plethora of videos, interactive features and an online web series.
A great example of successful peer-to-peer communication. Content for students generated by students, ‘boxed-up’ and delivered just how students want it. This is something the concerned parents wish they could match as they are, without doubt, keen to look after their children’s welfare but struggle to pass on invaluable information in a cool way - the SORTED way.
What began as a ‘filler’ before they got ‘proper’ jobs begins to gather momentum and takes on a life of its own. Book sales continue to grow, the chef wins a national talent competition on UKTV Food’s Market Kitchen and the SORTED brand becomes a trendy and highly visible entity now synonymous with student life, gaining increased recognition amongst students, who follow it for its entertainment value as well as its useful content.
As the brand new interactive cooking aids are released on YouTube, SORTED are rewarded with hits taking them into the top 100 most viewed channels on the day of its launch. (www.youtube.com/sortedstudents) Following this success their new series, due for release in the next academic term, is snapped up by an on-demand TV channel and will be fed to residents of student halls up and down the country.
Amongst this excitement SORTED are keen to show that, despite the current climate, graduates are able to remain productive and succeed in their ambitions. Although the 8 crew members have no idea where this journey will take them, one thing is for sure ... it’s one hell of a ride.
