Group VI Announces the Opening of Brenau University’s South Atlanta/Fairburn Campus
Fairburn, GA, September 05, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The City of Fairburn and Brenau University celebrated the Grand Opening of their new campus located in the Fairburn Education Center at 314 NW Broad Street (U.S. Highway 29) in historic Fairburn, GA.
The City of Fairburn Georgia selected Group VI to provide design-build, construction, and leasing services for the $10 million, four-acre education complex designed by Historical Concepts.
Brenau occupies one of two 18,400-square-foot academic buildings. The other building serves as Georgia Military College’s South Atlanta Campus, which opened in November of last year. The Fairburn Campus also features a three-story 11,400-square-foot, colonial-style administration building, which serves both as the administrative center for the college as well as the City of Fairburn’s main activity center and two 2,000-square-foot retail and food service buildings. Phase 2 of the project will include two more 14,400-square-foot academic buildings. The city is also making plans to build a deck on the site of a surface-level parking lot that will help accommodate the increased traffic it expects at the facility because of the Brenau presence and increased enrollment at GMC.
The ceremony included U.S. Rep. David Scott, Fairburn Mayor Betty Hannah, and members of the city council and development authority along with representatives from Group VI, the general contractors for the education complex, and Debbie Condon, the GMC campus director.
Brenau officials in attendance were Brenau University President Ed Schrader, Brenau’s top academic officer, Jim Southerland; Wayne Dempsey, executive vice president and CFO; Scott Briell, senior vice president for enrollment and student services; David Barnett, associate vice president for nonresidential program; Fairburn campus director Andy Jurchenko; and the university's four academic deans - Bill Lightfoot, business and mass communication; Lora Bailey, education; Gale Starich, graduate studies and health and science; and Andrea Birch, undergraduate studies and arts and humanities.
"I welcome you to our community and to our city - the best city in South Fulton County," Betty Hannah, mayor of Fairburn, told the Brenau group at the ceremony. "We are pleased that Brenau has picked us and decided to come join our community to give the citizens - not just in Fairburn but the whole of South Fulton County - another educational opportunity. We look forward to many successes and greater growth as you fill this building with students."
Group VI, a full-service construction, development and real estate firm headquartered in Peachtree City, has completed numerous public, education, office, medical, industrial, and religious projects throughout the Southeast including the City of Fayetteville Law Enforcement Center, the University of Georgia’s Tifton Campus, and Central Georgia Technical College’s Crawford County Center
