You Are Cordially Invited to Raise a Glass to Seamless Garment Ministry’s Upcoming Fundraiser "A Toast to Life"
Local Program for Homeless Expectant Mothers Prepares to Host Its First Annual Celebration of Life and Silent Auction on September 19th.
Marietta, GA, September 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Tucked away from Marietta’s busy streets, in a quaint bungalow community lie two homes that signify caring, compassion and hope for dozens of women and their children. These homes are a vital part of a four-pillar program designed by Seamless Garment Ministry to aid homeless expectant mothers and families in crisis within the Metro Atlanta area. The four pillars of Seamless Garment include: A Resident Program – making this one of only two shelters in all of Cobb County specifically designed for pregnant women who find themselves in an unstable housing environment and all alone; A Non-Resident Program – offering services, classes and workshops to single mothers in the community who will benefit and improve their lifestyle; A Resource Program – providing much-needed supplies to less fortunate families; and A Support Program – providing those in crisis with the tools and life skills they require to help lift themselves out of poverty and homelessness. The couple behind the scenes of this unique ministry – Caryn and Dave Lyng – feels these women deserve a special kind of care and support. “We are committed to providing a home-like setting for the mothers we help, and to give them a support system they so desperately need. We keep in touch with many of the moms who graduate our program, and some even come back to mentor others,” relates Caryn Lyng, Executive Director for Seamless Garment Ministry.
It is the goal of Seamless Garment Ministry to open a new house every year for expectant mothers in need. “We can currently only house five mothers at a time. We had over 150 calls from women seeking housing this past year. There’s a real need out there,” says Lyng. “The average homeless shelter is just not equipped for pregnant mothers or their young babies. Babies require a quiet, clean, peaceful, stable environment.” With that in mind, Lyng and her Board of Directors have planned a very special evening in an effort to celebrate life and raise essential funds to purchase additional housing and supplies. “A Toast To Life” will be hosted in The Parish Center at Holy Family Catholic Church on September 19 from 7 to 10:30 p.m. The evening’s festivities will include a buffet of heavy hors d’oeuvres served with wine and beer, a PowerPoint presentation detailing Seamless Garment’s mission, a raffle for prizes (winners need not be present at time of drawing) and a silent auction featuring several vacation destinations, local restaurants, artwork, sports memorabilia and more. Tickets to “A Toast To Life” are $40 each, two for $75 or a table for eight for $250 – and can be purchased in advance by calling 678-337-7858 or through the Ministry’s website at www.seamlessgarmentministry.com. All proceeds from the evening’s donations, raffle ticket sales and silent auction will directly benefit Seamless Garment Ministry, and all will be matched dollar for dollar by an anonymous donor. Holy Family Catholic Church is located at 3401 Lower Roswell Road in Marietta. The Lyngs and the rest of the Seamless Garment Family look forward to seeing You there.
About Seamless Garment Ministry: Seamless Garment Ministry is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity. Women in need aged 21 years and up, with an unplanned pregnancy, are welcome to call and inquire about the services offered at Seamless Garment Ministry. Residents of the Seamless Garment Program are provided many valuable tools and resources in addition to temporary housing. The Ministry also offers a Non-Resident Program where expectant mothers are invited to attend classes and workshops alongside the Residents. These classes and workshops include life skills training, financial seminars, home management, and parenting. In addition, Seamless Garment Ministry offers a Resource Center as a Community Outreach Program. The Resource Center provides donated items of diapers, baby clothes and other necessities to families in crisis within the Cobb County community. Seamless Garment Ministry relies largely on donations from individual contributors, corporations, and organizations to continue to provide shelter and services to those in need. Monthly financial commitments to aid in covering operational costs are much needed and greatly appreciated, as are donations of both baby items and household goods. Seamless Garment Ministry is also open to building relationships with local businesses to aid in growing their network. The Board of Directors hopes to create a model ministry as their efforts grow and expand to reach other parts of the Atlanta-Metro area and North Georgia. Seamless Garment Ministry’s Mission Statement: “To offer shelter to an expectant mother in an unplanned pregnancy and to provide the best possible environment to ensure the safe arrival of a healthy baby while working together with the mother to give her the tools and resources needed to obtain independent living.”
